Electrolux Washer Extractor Error Code 54: Tacho, No Set Signal
Error code 54 means the DLCU saw tacho pulses without the CPU's should-rotate bit, so the drum rotated and stopped twice without it. If the error returns after a reset, the manual says to change the CPU.
High: a drum that moves without a command is a safety condition, so the machine stops until it is corrected.

What does Electrolux Professional error code 54 mean?
The tacho reports drum rotation to the DLCU, and the CPU tells the DLCU when the drum is supposed to turn by setting a should-rotate bit. The two must agree. If the DLCU sees tacho pulses while the bit is off, the drum is turning without a command. The DLCU stops it, and if this happens twice, the board shows ERROR 054 / TACHO, NO SET SIGNAL. The manual lists cross talk in the CPU circuits and damaged CPU parts as the causes, which means the bit is wrong, not the drum. The action is to reset, and to change the CPU if the error returns. Operators see the drum stop for no apparent reason, and the machine halt. It differs from code 58, where the bit is on but no tacho pulses arrive.
Affected models and control systems
Electrolux washer-extractors W465H-W4300H, W475S-W4330S and W475N-W4330N, Type W3..., with the Compass Control. The code compares the tacho pulses with the CPU's should-rotate bit.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Display shows ERROR 054 / TACHO, NO SET SIGNAL
- Drum stops unexpectedly
- Machine halts
- Message returns after a reset
Possible causes
Listed in Electrolux Professional's documentation
- Cross talk in CPU circuits
- Damaged CPU parts
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 54 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Drum coasting after a stop, producing pulses with no command
- Electrical noise on the signal lines
- CPU board ageing in a damp laundry
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the machine off and on once.
- Let the drum come to a complete stop before restarting.
- Do not touch the drum while it is turning.
- If it returns, write down when it happens and call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code 54
- Read the code and confirm ERROR 054.
- Reset the error codes.
- Check that the drum is not driven by anything while stopped.
- Check the signal lines for noise.
- Change the CPU if the error returns.
- The CPU and DLCU signals are tested behind covers on a machine with line voltage.
- A drum moving without a command is a safety matter.
- The replacement CPU must be loaded with the machine's data.
How error code 54 differs from similar codes
Code 54 is tacho pulses with no should-rotate bit; code 58 is the bit on with no tacho pulses.
