Eversys Enigma Coffee Machine Error Code E-017: Left Boiler

On an Enigma or Shotmaster, E-017 means the left coffee boiler is overheating, and the machine switches to standby. Leave it to cool, check the water tap and supply line, and note whether E-018, the right boiler message, appears too. Call us with the order of the messages.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the control cut the heat to the left boiler, so the machine stays in standby until it is checked.

What does Eversys error code E-017 mean?

Enigma and Shotmaster machines have two coffee boilers, one on each side, and the control monitors each one. E-017 is the message for the left boiler getting too hot. The control shuts off its heat and moves the machine into standby, and the display keeps the message until the machine has cooled. Staff lose drinks from the left side first and may find the right side still working for a moment. The same number on a Cameo describes its single coffee boiler, which is why the left side matters here. The checks are the left boiler's temperature sensor, the heater switching and safety for that side, the water flow to the left boiler, and scale on its heating element. Because the machine has a pair, comparing the two sides is useful: if the right boiler is healthy and the left one is overheating, the problem is on the left side's sensor, heater or water path, and not in something shared like the main supply. Whether E-018 follows E-017 or never appears is an important clue, which is why we ask for the order of the messages.

Affected models and control systems

Eversys Enigma and Shotmaster, which have two coffee boilers. On the single-boiler Cameo, E-017 refers to its one coffee boiler.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Drinks from the left side stop first
  • The left side of the machine is very hot
  • E-018 may appear afterward

Possible causes

Listed in Eversys's documentation

  • Left coffee boiler temperature sensor reading wrongly
  • Left heater switching or safety not turning the heat off
  • Poor water flow to the left boiler
  • Scale on the left heating element

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E-017 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A left-side supply branch that is pinched or clogged while the right branch flows normally
  • A left sensor connector that has loosened so it reads low and the heater stays on

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Leave the machine in standby and let it cool.
  2. Check the water tap is open and the supply line is not kinked.
  3. Note whether E-018, the right boiler message, also appears.
  4. Call us and tell us which message came first.
  5. Mention the filter reminder if it is on.

How a technician diagnoses error code E-017

  1. Let the machine cool, then read E-017 and note whether E-018 also appears.
  2. Compare left and right boiler temperatures at the same point in warm-up.
  3. Test the left boiler sensor against a reference reading.
  4. Test the left heater output and its safety device.
  5. Check the water flow to the left boiler and look for scale.
  6. Replace the failing part and run both sides through a full test.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The left boiler holds hot water and pressure after overheating.
  • Comparing the left and right sides takes temperature readings and a meter on the left sensor and heater.
  • Fitting the wrong sensor to the wrong side gives false readings.

How error code E-017 differs from similar codes

E-018 is the matching message for the right coffee boiler.
