Eversys Coffee Machine Error Code E-104: Steam Heating Timeout

E-104 is a Timeout Steam Heating message: the steam boiler did not reach its nominal pressure in the allowed time. Restart the machine once from the main switch and confirm the water tap is open. If the message comes back, stop using steam and call us.

Medium · inspection needed

High: steam stops, and the machine cannot return to normal service until the heating side is corrected.

What does Eversys error code E-104 mean?

The control gives the steam boiler a fixed amount of time to build pressure. After the machine starts it allows 20 minutes, and during normal operation it allows 10 minutes. If the pressure has not reached its nominal value when that time is up, the control stops waiting and puts E-104 on the display. The check exists because a boiler that heats too slowly is either not receiving power, is short of water, or is being read incorrectly, and the control cannot tell which from the front panel alone. While the message is showing, staff lose steam and sometimes hot water too. The manual places the cause on the heating side or in the pressure reading, so both have to be tested before anything is replaced. A heater that switches poorly and a pressure sensor that reads low look identical to the operator: steam simply never becomes available. Hard water adds a third possibility, because scale on the heating element slows the climb in pressure long before the element fails outright. The display text for this message is E-104.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to Eversys Cameo and Enigma / Shotmaster machines that show the E-xxx error messages. Other Eversys message families (S for stop, W for warning) mean different things.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Steam wand gives no steam or only weak steam
  • Hot water may also be limited
  • E-104 stays on the display after start-up
  • Steam pressure never seems to build

Possible causes

Listed in Eversys's documentation

  • Steam boiler heater not heating or not switching on
  • Steam pressure sensor reading low, or its wiring damaged
  • Scale on the heating element in hard water
  • Water level in the steam boiler too low

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E-104 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A tap that was shut after cleaning, leaving the boiler to refill slowly
  • A heater relay that closes late, stretching the climb past the allowed time

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Restart the machine once from the main switch, leaving it off for ten seconds, and watch whether steam pressure builds.
  2. Look at the water tap and make sure it is open.
  3. Keep hands and cloths clear of the steam wand while the boiler is hot.
  4. If E-104 returns, leave steam alone and call us. Tell us whether it appeared at start-up or in the middle of service.

How a technician diagnoses error code E-104

  1. Read the message history to see whether E-104 came at start-up (20 minute limit) or during service (10 minute limit).
  2. Confirm water supply and boiler fill level before any electrical test.
  3. Measure the heater element and its switching with a meter and check for supply at the right moment.
  4. Compare actual boiler pressure on a gauge with the value the control reports.
  5. Inspect the element for scale and descale or replace it as the readings dictate.
  6. Replace the pressure sensor or heater only after the matching test fails.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The steam boiler is pressurized and hot, and the heater is fed with mains voltage behind the panels.
  • Telling a weak heater from a wrong pressure reading takes a gauge and a meter, not the display.
  • Descaling or replacing an element means draining and opening the boiler.

E-104Questions about Eversys error code E-104
How long does the machine wait before showing E-104?

The manual gives 20 minutes after start-up and 10 minutes during operation. If steam pressure has not built by then, the message appears.

Can I still pour coffee while E-104 shows?

Coffee may still run, but steam is unavailable and hot water can be limited. Do not force the steam wand.

Will E-104 clear after one restart?

It can if the cause was a closed tap or a one-time slow fill. If it returns, the heating or the pressure reading needs a test.
