Eversys Coffee Machine Error Code W-038: Coffee Boiler Sensor Failure
W-038 reports a failure of the coffee boiler temperature sensor. The control cannot read a believable temperature from the boiler. Power-cycle once, note when the warning returns, and stop using the machine and call us if it stays.
Medium: a warning, but heating cannot be judged safely until the sensor reads correctly.

What does Eversys error code W-038 mean?
The coffee boiler heats water for brewing, and the control holds its temperature by reading a sensor and switching the heater. If the sensor reading is missing, impossible or unstable, the control cannot judge heating safely and shows W-038. Staff may see drinks affected or the machine heating oddly. The owner's guide points to the sensor and its cable, so those come first in our checks. The error can matter in both directions. A sensor that reads too low can make the heater run on and overheat the boiler, while one that reads too high can leave the water cold and the coffee thin. Because the sensor cannot be trusted, the control cannot tell which way it is wrong. A cable that has chafed or hardened from heat, a loose connector, or the board input can give the same reading. Operators should not touch the sensor or its cable, since it sits in a hot area with mains power. Noting whether the warning appears right away or only after the machine has heated gives us a useful clue for the call. If W-038 stays after a restart, stop using the machine. The display text is W-038.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the Eversys Cameo with W-xxx warning messages. The steam wand and milk temperature sensors have their own warnings, W-103 and W-056.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Warning on the display
- Coffee comes out too hot or too cool
- Machine heats oddly
- Warning appears only after the machine has warmed up
Possible causes
Listed in Eversys's documentation
- Failed coffee boiler temperature sensor
- Damaged sensor cable or connector
- Failed board input for the temperature signal
- Boiler heating not matching the sensor reading
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code W-038 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A sensor that drifts only at brewing temperature and reads normal when cool
- A connector that darkened from heat and adds resistance
Safe checks before calling for service
- Power-cycle the machine at the main switch, leaving ten seconds between off and on.
- Note whether the warning returns right away or after the machine heats up.
- Make sure the water tap is open.
- If W-038 stays, stop using the machine and call us. Do not touch the sensor or its cable.
How a technician diagnoses error code W-038
- Cool the machine and isolate power.
- Read the temperature the control reports and compare it with a probe.
- Inspect the sensor, cable and connectors.
- Measure the sensor resistance against its temperature chart.
- Check the board input.
- Replace the sensor or cable only after it fails the test.
- The sensor sits on a hot boiler next to mains-powered heater wiring.
- Checking its resistance against temperature takes a meter and a reference thermometer.
- A wrong reading can make the boiler overheat or run cold, so it should not be left to guesswork.

Can I keep brewing with W-038?
We advise stopping. The control cannot judge heating, and drinks may come out wrong.
Is W-038 the same as E-106?
No. E-106 is steam boiler overheating. W-038 is the coffee boiler sensor failing.
Will a restart help?
It can clear a one-time glitch. A failed sensor or cable will bring it back.
