Frymaster 3000 Fryer Error Code E08: Error ATO Board
ERROR ATO BOARD (E08) on a Frymaster OCF30 series electric fryer with the 3000 controller means the connection to the ATO (auto top-off) board is lost or the board has failed. Check that the harnesses between the controller and the ATO board are secure with no pins pushed out. Call service if it continues.
Medium: automatic top-off is down, but the manual does not call for a shutdown.
What does Frymaster E08 ERROR ATO BOARD mean?
Auto top-off, ATO, keeps the oil level in the vat by adding oil automatically. The 3000 controller talks to a separate ATO board to do that. When the controller can no longer talk to the board, either because the connection is lost or because the board has failed, it logs E08 and shows ERROR ATO BOARD. The manual lists those two causes. The first is a connection problem, which is cheap to check: harnesses between the controller and the ATO board that are loose, or have a pin pushed out of the connector. The second is a board failure. The manual's advice follows that order: check that the harnesses are secure and no pins are pushed out, and call service if the message continues. The fryer may still heat, but automatic top-off is not working, so the oil level has to be watched by hand.
Affected models and control systems

What you may notice
- ERROR ATO BOARD on the controller
- Oil level that is not topped off automatically
- Alarm sounding
- Message that comes back after restart
Possible causes
Listed in Frymaster's documentation
- ATO board connection lost
- ATO board failure
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind E08 ERROR ATO BOARD on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A harness pin that backed out of its connector after repeated cleaning and vibration
- Grease or moisture inside the ATO board connector
- A harness that has been pinched where the cabinet door closes
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the fryer off and let it cool before looking at anything.
- From outside, check that the oil level is correct and top it off by hand if needed.
- Do not pull on harnesses; leave connector checks to the technician if panels must be opened.
- Write down whether the message appeared once or repeatedly.
How a technician diagnoses E08 ERROR ATO BOARD
- Read the error log and confirm E08, noting E17 if present.
- With power off, check the harnesses between the controller and the ATO board for secure seating and pushed-out pins.
- Check the connector for grease, corrosion or damaged pins.
- Swap the harness or board only if it has been shown to be bad.
- Replace the ATO board when the connection is good and the controller still cannot reach it.
- Controller and ATO board harnesses are inside cabinets with live line voltage.
- Checking for pushed-out pins takes a connector inspection under good light with the power off.
- Replacing the board without checking the harness first can leave the error in place.
How E08 ERROR ATO BOARD differs from similar codes
E08 means the ATO board connection or the board itself; E17 is the ATO probe reading out of range, which is a different circuit.

Does E08 stop the fryer from heating?
The manual does not say it does. It does mean automatic top-off cannot be trusted.
Is E08 the same as E17?
No. E08 is the connection to the ATO board, and E17 is the ATO probe reading.
What can I do before service arrives?
Check the oil level by hand and keep the vat filled to the proper level.
