IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code E do: Door Opened During Cycle

E do on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor means the door-open and door-locked inputs were high together, which the manual describes as someone pulling on a locked door while a cycle runs. Take power off to clear it and wait for the lock to release.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the control stops the cycle on purpose to protect people, and a repeat with no one at the door needs repair.

What does IPSO error code E do mean?

The control reads two door signals: one that says the door is open and one that says it is locked. They should never both be true at once. When they are, the control reads it as an attempt to open a locked door during a cycle, stops the cycle and displays E do. A person reaching for a moving basket is a real danger, so the machine is built to react at once. Staff find it halted with a wet load in the drum. The manual says the message clears when power is removed. If E do appears with nobody near the door, then a switch is reporting wrongly or the latch is worn. The door switch and lock switch alignment is the first thing to check. Latch wear is next, and the control's door inputs are checked once the switches and latch are ruled out. The door should be opened only after the lock has released.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to IPSO washer-extractors in the CHM495R family, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control in that programming manual.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • The cycle stops suddenly and E do shows on the display
  • The machine halts with a wet load in the drum
  • E do appears although no one touched the door

Possible causes

Listed in IPSO's documentation

  • Door pulled while it was locked
  • Door switch and lock switch out of alignment
  • Latch worn
  • Control's door inputs reading wrongly

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E do on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A door that has been tugged by impatient users before the lock releases
  • A door switch actuator that sticks half-way and signals open while locked

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Take power off the machine; that clears the message, according to the manual.
  2. Wait until the lock has released before you open the door.
  3. Never reach into the drum while it may still be turning.
  4. If E do shows when nobody touched the door, let us look at the switches.

How a technician diagnoses error code E do

  1. Read the code and ask whether anyone pulled the door.
  2. Observe the door-open and door-locked inputs at the control as the door is closed and locked.
  3. Check the alignment of the door switch and the lock switch with the power locked off.
  4. Inspect the latch for wear and play.
  5. Replace a switch or latch only when the input test shows it reporting wrongly.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The door inputs belong to the safety chain that protects people from the basket, so repairs follow the maker's procedure.
  • Switch alignment is set behind the door frame and cover near live circuits.
  • Watching two inputs change together requires access to the control's diagnostics or a meter on the wiring.

How error code E do differs from similar codes

E do is both door inputs high together. E dL is a lock that does not engage or release within 10 seconds.
