IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code E Ht: Heat Time Exceeded
E Ht on a heated IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor means the 120-minute heat time was exceeded because the programmed temperature was never reached. The control switched the heater off for the rest of the cycle, so confirm the hot supply is open and note how cool the water stays.
Medium: washing continues, but loads do not reach the programmed temperature.
What does IPSO error code E Ht mean?
On a heated machine, the control turns the heater on when the water is below the programmed temperature and watches the clock. It allows 120 minutes for the water to reach the setpoint. If the temperature is still not there, the control stops trying, switches the heater output off for the rest of the cycle and lets the wash go on, showing E Ht. Staff see cycles that finish with water far cooler than set. A weak or failed heating element is one reason, and a contactor that is not closing is another. Cold or low supply water can overload a healthy heater, and a temperature sensor that reads wrongly can fool the control into thinking the job is done or impossible. The control's heater output is the last thing to suspect. Because the wash continues, this is easy to overlook, but loads washed cooler than programmed may not be cleaned or sanitized as intended.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to heated IPSO washer-extractors in the CHM495R family, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control in that programming manual.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- The wash finishes with water cooler than the setpoint
- E Ht appears at the end or during a long heated step
- Loads come out less clean than usual
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- Heating element weak or failed, or its contactor not closing
- Temperature sensor reading inaccurately
- Supply water too cold or at too low a level
- Control heater output not switching
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E Ht on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A hot supply valve closed at the building so only cold water enters
- An element coated with scale that heats slowly and never reaches the setpoint
Safe checks before calling for service
- Confirm the hot supply valve is open and the water coming in is warm.
- Note how far below the setpoint the water stays.
- Do not touch heater wiring or any panel.
- Phone us or send the online form for service, and give us the cycle and set temperature.
How a technician diagnoses error code E Ht
- Read the code and note the setpoint and the actual water temperature.
- Check the supply water temperature and level at the machine.
- With the power locked off, check the element resistance and the contactor coil and contacts.
- Verify the temperature sensor reading against a thermometer.
- Test the control's heater output before replacing the element, contactor or sensor.
- Heater wiring and contactors carry live power at 208 to 240 V or more, and a heated tub holds scalding water.
- Telling a weak element from a bad sensor needs a thermometer and a meter during a heating run.
- Heater settings in the programming decide when the control gives up, and they should not be altered casually.
How error code E Ht differs from similar codes
E Ht is the heat time running out. E oP and E SH are temperature sensor circuit problems that can also leave a wash cool.

Related IPSO washer error codes
Did the wash fail completely?
No. The control turned the heater off and continued, so the cycle finished at a lower temperature.
Can cold supply water cause E Ht?
Yes. Very cold or low incoming water makes the setpoint hard to reach in time.
Will it clear itself?
It clears with the cycle, but the cause remains.
