IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code E Ld: Drain Leak Detection
E Ld on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor is a water leak detection error for the drain valve: the control saw the level fall when the drain should have been closed. Look under the machine for water, shut the supply valves if it is spreading and take the machine out of production until it is checked.
High: a possible water leak on a plant floor with live electrical equipment nearby.

What does IPSO error code E Ld mean?
After the drain valve closes, the water level in the drum should hold steady. The control keeps watching it. If the level drops while the valve is supposed to be shut, the control concludes that water is escaping and stops with E Ld. Water on a plant floor is a slipping hazard and can reach electrical equipment, which is why the code is taken seriously. A drain valve that does not seal, a loose hose or clamp, a tub seal or a level sensor that misreads could be behind it. The control cannot tell a real leak from a bad reading, so a visual check for wet floor and drips is the first step. If the floor is dry and the level sensor is drifting, the repair is different from a leaking valve.
Affected models and control systems
CHM495R washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Water level drops during wash
- E Ld on the display
- Puddle or drips under the machine
- Cycle stops while the drum is part full
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- Water level falling while the drain valve should be closed
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E Ld on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Drain valve seat and diaphragm
- Weeping hoses and clamps
- Tub seals and gaskets
- Whether the level sensor drifted
Safe checks before calling for service
- Look under the machine for water, keeping away from electrical parts.
- Close the supply valves if water is spreading.
- Take the machine out of production until it is checked.
- Call us to schedule service, and tell us when the code first appeared.
How a technician diagnoses error code E Ld
- Read the code and note when the level drops during the cycle.
- Inspect the drain valve, hoses and clamps for drips under a fill test.
- Check tub seals and gaskets for seepage.
- Compare level sensor readings with the actual water height.
- Replace the valve diaphragm, seal or sensor only after the leak path is found.
- Water around a machine with 208-240 V circuits is a shock and slip hazard. Tracing a leak can mean working under a heavy machine. Confusing a sensor drift with a real leak leads to the wrong part being replaced.
How error code E Ld differs from similar codes
E Ld is the drain-side check. E LF is the matching check on the fill side.

Is E Ld always a real leak?
Not always. A drifting level sensor can mimic one, but check the floor first.
Can I run the machine with E Ld?
Not until the cause is found, since a real leak can damage the floor and equipment.
Will E Ld clear after a restart?
The message does, but it returns if the leak path is still there.
