IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code E LF: Fill Leak Detection

E LF on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor is a water leak detection error for the fill valve: the control saw the water level rise when no fill had been asked for. Close the supply valves if the drum is filling by itself, switch off power and ask us to test the valves.

Medium · inspection needed

High: uncommanded water entry can overflow onto the floor.

What does IPSO error code E LF mean?

When no fill step is active, every fill valve should be fully shut and the drum level should stay put. The control keeps watching the level even between steps. If it sees the level creeping up with no command to fill, it stops and posts E LF. In a plant, that can mean a fill valve passing water while it should be shut, and a drum that fills slowly overnight or between batches. Debris in a valve seat, a worn valve, high supply pressure or a misreading level sensor are possible. Excess water risks an overflow onto the floor, so the first action is to shut the supply. A level sensor that drifts upward can produce the same code without any water entering, so the cause is not certain until the valves have been tested.

Affected models and control systems

CHM495R washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Water in the drum when the machine is idle
  • E LF on the display
  • Drum level slowly rising between batches
  • Wet floor near the machine if it overflows

Possible causes

Listed in IPSO's documentation

  • Water level rising with no fill requested

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E LF on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Fill valve seats holding grit
  • Worn fill valve diaphragms
  • Supply pressure at the machine
  • Level sensor tubing and its readings

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Close the supply valves for this machine if the drum is filling by itself.
  2. Switch off power with clear floor around you.
  3. Do not try to empty the drum by hand while the machine is live.
  4. Ask us to test the valves, and tell us how long the machine sat idle before the code.

How a technician diagnoses error code E LF

  1. Read the code and confirm whether the level rises with valves unpowered.
  2. Close the supply and check whether the level stops rising.
  3. Inspect fill valve seats and diaphragms for debris and wear.
  4. Measure static supply pressure against the valve rating.
  5. Check the level sensor and its tube before replacing a valve.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Fill valves are mounted near live coil wiring, and the drum may contain a lot of water. Overflow reaches the electrical parts below. A level sensor tube problem and a leaking valve look the same from outside.

How error code E LF differs from similar codes

E LF is the fill-side check. E Ld is the matching drain-side leak check.

E LFQuestions about IPSO error code E LF
What should I do first when E LF appears?

Close the supply valves for the machine so it cannot overfill.

Does E LF mean the drain is leaking?

No. That is E Ld. E LF concerns water coming in.

Can I use the machine after turning the water back on?

Not until the valves are tested, as the drum could fill by itself again.
