IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code E Sd: Slow Drain Warning
E Sd on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor is a warning that the drum took longer than the average drain time to empty during a cycle. The cycle may still finish. Check whether other machines on the same drain are slow too, and look for a kinked hose.
Low: a warning that does not stop the cycle.

What does IPSO error code E Sd mean?
The control keeps a sense of how long a normal drain takes. When a drain step runs longer than that average, it raises a warning but lets the cycle go on, and it shows E Sd. Plant staff notice drain steps dragging, which stretches batch time across a shift. It is a warning rather than a stop, which separates it from E dr, the alarm that ends the cycle if the level is not reached within 15 minutes. A partly blocked drain line, a kinked hose, a tiring drain valve or a slow trench can cause it. Left alone, a slow drain can become a full stoppage, so it is worth a look before it does. In a busy laundry, the drain trench is often shared, so a slow drain on one machine may start with the plant, not the washer.
Affected models and control systems
CHM495R washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E Sd warning during a cycle
- Water takes longer to leave the drum
- Batch times creeping up
- Standing water in the trench after drain
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- Drum taking longer than the average drain time
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E Sd on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Plant drain line or trench running partly blocked
- Hose kinks and lint
- Drain valve opening time
- Neighboring machines dumping at once
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check whether other machines on the same drain are slow as well.
- Look behind the machine for a kinked hose, without pulling it from the wall.
- Let the cycle finish if it continues.
- Ask us to check the drain if the warning recurs, and note which cycles trigger it.
How a technician diagnoses error code E Sd
- Read the code history for how often the warning appears.
- Observe a full drain with a timer and compare it with the cycle's usual time.
- Inspect the drain hose and valve for kinks, lint and wear.
- Check the trench or floor drain for restriction.
- Test the drain valve operation before replacing it.
- Working at a drain valve means reaching under a machine that is plumbed and wired. Plant trench cleaning may need plumbing tools and drain-line access. The valve and its control signal are live 208-240 V circuits.
How error code E Sd differs from similar codes
E Sd is a slow-drain warning. E dr is the full alarm when the drum has not drained within 15 minutes.

Do I have to stop the wash after E Sd?
No. It is a warning and the cycle continues.
Will it become E dr?
It can, if the drain keeps slowing down until the level is not reached in 15 minutes.
Can the trench cause E Sd?
Yes. When several machines dump at once, the trench can slow all of them.
