IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code Ed03: Tach Signal Missing
Ed03 on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor reports a tachometer error: the tach input on the drive was damaged at power-up, or no tach signal appeared after the motor started. Open the disconnect, check that nothing jams the basket and leave H3 and the drive to us.
Medium: the machine will not run, though the cause is often a loose plug.

What does IPSO error code Ed03 mean?
A drive running a motor needs feedback that the basket is really turning. The tach signal supplies that, and without it the drive cannot confirm motion. At power-up the drive tests its tach input. After the motor output begins, it expects pulses within moments. When the input is found damaged, or no pulses come, the drive halts and the control posts Ed03. Plant staff see the machine try to start and quit before it gets up to speed. The manual says to power down, then check H3 on the drive and the tach connections. A loose plug or a tired sensor is common. Since the basket may be free to turn while the signal is missing, the basket-by-hand test separates a mechanical jam, which would point to Ed04, from a signal problem that points here.
Affected models and control systems
CHM495R washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Machine tries to start, then quits before reaching speed
- Ed03 on the display
- Basket turns freely by hand
- Brief motor noise followed by stillness
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- Seating of the H3 plug on the drive
- Tach wire run and its plugs
- The tach sensor on the motor
- Tach input stage on the drive
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Ed03 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A plug that lost grip after repeated heat cycles
- Wire insulation worn through where the harness rubs the frame
- A sensor whose pickup gap changed after motor work
- A drive input damaged by a surge at power-up
Safe checks before calling for service
- Open the disconnect to power the machine down.
- After the lock releases, check that nothing jams the basket.
- Leave H3 and the drive to us, since they sit behind live covers.
- Call us if Ed03 returns, and tell us whether the basket moved at all before the stop.
How a technician diagnoses error code Ed03
- Read the code history and see whether Ed03 follows power-up or a start command.
- Check the H3 seating and the tach connectors, with power locked out.
- Look over the tach wiring for rubbing and test continuity.
- Measure tach output from the motor while turning the shaft slowly.
- Evaluate the drive's tach input after the sensor and wire pass.
- The H3 connection and tach plugs sit beside live drive circuitry. Pulse checks need instruments and a turning shaft. The tach and drive are costly parts, and the error stays if the wrong one is swapped.

Does Ed03 mean the motor burned out?
Not necessarily. It means the drive could not see the basket turning.
Can I try again?
After a power cycle, once. If it quits again, stop.
How do I tell Ed03 from Ed04?
If the basket turns freely by hand, think signal (Ed03). If it binds, think rotor (Ed04).
