IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code Ed06: Drive Heat Limit
Ed06 on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor is a thermal error from high IPM temperature: the drive's power module overheated and the drive stopped the motor. Switch the machine off and let it cool completely. Clear the area around it, improve ventilation if you can and space out heavy batches.
Medium: the machine stops until it cools, and a repeat points to airflow or drive load.

What does IPSO error code Ed06 mean?
Every time the motor runs, the drive's power module (IPM) creates heat, and the heat sink dumps it into the air around the machine. The drive monitors the module temperature. When it passes the limit, the drive halts the motor to save the module, and the control shows Ed06. In a plant, this often follows back-to-back heavy batches in a warm laundry room. The manual says to power down and verify convection around the drive heat sink. Lint buildup, blocked airflow and poor ventilation around the machines are the common reasons heat stays in. Basket drag that makes the motor work harder can add to the load on the drive. A false high reading from the drive's own temperature sensing is possible but should be considered last.
Affected models and control systems
CHM495R washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Machine stops after a string of heavy batches
- Ed06 on the display
- Warm air coming off the cabinet
- Code clears after cooling and comes back later
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- Lint packed around the heat sink fins
- Ventilation of the laundry room
- Basket drag adding motor load
- Temperature sensing inside the drive
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Ed06 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Machines installed too close to a wall or each other
- Carts of damp linen stored against the cabinet
- A bearing that adds drag so the motor works harder
- A temperature reading in the drive that runs high
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the machine off and let it cool completely.
- Clear the area around the machine and improve ventilation if you can.
- Space out heavy batches until we check the drive.
- Ask us to clean and test the drive if the code repeats.
How a technician diagnoses error code Ed06
- Read the code history for how long the machine ran before each Ed06.
- Measure room temperature and the clearance around the cabinet.
- Lock out the machine and inspect the drive heat sink for lint.
- Check motor current and basket drag, which add load on the drive.
- Test the drive's temperature sensing against a cool-start reading before replacing it.
- The heat sink sits next to live 208-240 V drive circuitry, so cleaning it means lockout and removing covers. Telling real overheating from a false reading needs measurements. Extra basket drag is a mechanical problem that has to be found separately.

Is the drive ruined by Ed06?
Not necessarily. The stop is meant to prevent that.
How long should I wait?
Until the cabinet is cool, and then try a lighter batch.
Could a fan help?
Better room ventilation can help, but not a fan that blows lint toward the drive.
