IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code Ed08: Output Current Limit
Ed08 on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor means the motor output current passed the maximum the drive permits, and the drive stopped. Switch power off and on, as the manual says, and run a lighter batch next. If it comes back straight away, stop retrying and ask us for service.
High: the drive stops the motor, and repeats point to a short or heavy drag.

What does IPSO error code Ed08 mean?
The drive has a hard ceiling on how much current it may send to the motor. A heavy batch, a dragging basket, a failing motor or a short in the wiring can push the current toward that ceiling, particularly while the basket accelerates. When the current exceeds it, the drive cuts its output and the control displays Ed08. Plant staff see the machine halt under a heavy batch or at the start of a spin. Switching power off and on is the manual's only step. A dragging basket, a failing motor, a wiring short or a drive problem may be behind it, so a repeat after a restart calls for a proper test rather than more attempts. The load itself is worth checking first, since a batch near or over the rated weight asks a lot from the motor.
Affected models and control systems
CHM495R washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Machine halts under a heavy batch
- Ed08 on the display
- Motor sounds strained before the stop
- Code returns immediately on the next try
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- Bearing and basket drag
- Windings and wiring on the motor
- Output stage in the drive
- Weight of recent heavy batches
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Ed08 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Batches regularly loaded above the rated weight
- A bearing that has begun to bind
- Winding insulation that is leaking current
- A drive output stage damaged by repeated overloads
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch power off and on, following the manual.
- Run a lighter batch next.
- Stop retrying if the code comes back straight away.
- Ask us for service once it does, and tell us roughly how heavy the batch was and which formula was running.
How a technician diagnoses error code Ed08
- Read the code history and note batch weights around each Ed08.
- Lock out the machine and turn the basket by hand for drag.
- Measure motor winding resistance and insulation to ground.
- Inspect the motor leads for damage.
- Check drive output current under a known load before replacing the drive.
- Motor and drive current measurements are taken on live 208-240 V circuits. Repeated restarts can overheat a motor that only needed a bearing. A short in the wiring can destroy a drive.

Could the batch weight cause Ed08?
Yes, a heavy batch raises the motor current, so try a lighter one first.
How many restarts are acceptable?
One. If Ed08 returns right away, something is wrong that a restart cannot cure.
Is Ed08 the same as Ed05?
No. Ed05 is a surge picked up by the power switches. Ed08 is the current going past its allowed maximum.
