Newco Coffee Brewer Error Code CHECK WATER: Tank Fill Timeout
CHECK WATER, shown as CONTACT/SERVICE CHECK WATER on a Newco Fresh Cup 4, is a tank fill error: the water level did not reach the probe in time. On start-up the large tank can cause a fill timeout, and the manual says to turn the machine off and back on to clear it. Otherwise check the water supply for disconnections or leaks.
Medium: the tank is not filling in time, so brewing stops, but start-up cases often clear with a restart.

What does Newco CHECK WATER mean?
When the Fresh Cup 4 fills its tank, the control waits for the water level to reach a probe. It allows a set amount of time. If the water does not touch the probe in that time, it stops waiting and shows CONTACT/SERVICE CHECK WATER. The manual calls this a tank fill error and explains that a fill timeout may occur on start-up because of the large tank. That means a first fill after installation or after the tank has been drained can simply take longer than the control allows, even when nothing is wrong. The manual's two actions follow from that. Check the water supply for disconnections or leaks, and, on start-up, turn the machine off and back on to clear the message and continue filling. The only cause the manual lists is that the water level did not reach the probe in time, which is the condition itself rather than a reason for it.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the Newco Fresh Cup 4 (FKP-4) pod machine, per manual PN 782163 Rev 20250319. The Fresh Cup Touch / FKP-4T manual, PN 782164 Rev 20260730, has a similar list.

What you may notice
- CONTACT/SERVICE CHECK WATER appears, often right after start-up
- The tank is not filling or is filling slowly
- No water at the outlet when a brew is requested
Possible causes
Listed in Newco's documentation
- Water level not reaching probe in time
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind CHECK WATER on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Water supply valve closed or supply line kinked
- Supply line disconnected or leaking before the brewer
- Inlet filter or screen clogged, slowing the fill
- Level probe coated with scale so it does not sense the water
- Fill valve not opening when the control calls
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check that the shut-off valve on the water line is open and the line is connected and not kinked.
- Look for water on the floor or around the connections that would show a leak.
- If this is the first start-up, turn the machine off, then on again to let the tank continue filling, as the manual says.
- If it returns, note how long the fill took and whether water was running into the brewer.
How a technician diagnoses CHECK WATER
- Confirm the alert and observe the fill from the start to see whether water enters the tank.
- Check supply pressure and the inlet connections for leaks or restriction.
- Inspect and clean the inlet screen or filter.
- Test the fill valve coil and the valve's operation when the control calls for water.
- Check the level probe and its wiring for scale or a poor connection.
- Replace the part that fails and run a complete fill to confirm the level is reached in time.
- The fill valve and probe wiring carry live voltage inside the machine.
- A restricted valve or filter often needs the water shut off and parts removed in the right order.
- Probe and board checks need a meter and the machine's wiring information.

Is CHECK WATER at first start-up a real problem?
Often not. The manual says the large tank can cause a fill timeout on start-up, and switching off and on clears it so filling continues.
What if the supply is fine and it still appears?
Then the fill valve, inlet screen or level probe should be tested, since the water is not reaching the probe in time.
Could a leak cause it?
Yes, a leak before the brewer can reduce the water reaching the tank. The manual lists disconnections and leaks in its checks.
