Newco Coffee Brewer Error Code E3: Heater Run Error
E3 means the water did not heat within the allowed time. The heater is switched off, but a brew cycle in progress is allowed to finish, and the brewer tries to heat again at the next brew cycle. The manual lists checks of the element, relay, hi-limit thermostat and harness.
High: the heater is disabled and the brewer cannot deliver hot water reliably.

What does Newco error code E3 mean?
The control gives the heater a time limit to bring the water up to temperature. If the water has not heated when that time runs out, the control shows E3 (Heater Run Error) and disables the heater. The manual says a brew cycle that is already running is allowed to finish. It also says the brewer tries to heat again at the next brew cycle, so E3 can come and go. The cause the manual gives is that the water did not heat within the timeout period. The actions are to check the element for a short and proper resistance, to check the relay, hi-limit thermostat and harness, and to replace the failing part. This is a heating problem, in contrast to E1 and E2, which are sensor readings. Here the sensor may be working correctly and reporting that the water is still cold.

What you may notice
- E3 (Heater Run Error) on the display
- Brew water lukewarm or cold
- Brew finishes but the next one does not heat
- Heating tried again at each brew start
Possible causes
Listed in Newco's documentation
- Water did not heat within timeout period
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E3 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Heating element open or weak
- Heater relay not closing
- Hi-limit thermostat tripped or open
- Harness connector to the heater burned or loose
- Water inlet volume much larger than the heater can warm in time
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check the temperature of the coffee being brewed with a thermometer.
- Switch the brewer off and on, as the manual's power cycle, and let it heat for several minutes.
- Check that the brewer is plugged into a circuit that is not shared with other large equipment.
- If E3 returns on the next brew, call for service.
- Tell the technician how long the water took to heat and whether this happened every brew.
How a technician diagnoses error code E3
- Read the display and the history for E3.
- Check element resistance for a short or open and for proper value.
- Check the heater relay for correct operation.
- Check the hi-limit thermostat and the harness for continuity.
- Replace the part that fails the test, then run a full heat-up and brew.
- Element, relay and thermostat tests are done on a hot tank with live heater circuits.
- Resistance values must be compared with the right figures for the brewer.
- Replacing heater parts needs draining the tank.
How error code E3 differs from similar codes
E1 and E2 report a bad temperature reading. E3 reports that the water did not heat, even if the reading is valid.

Will E3 stop a brew in progress?
The manual says a brew cycle already running is allowed to finish.
Will it try again?
Yes, the manual says the brewer tries to heat again at the next brew cycle.
Is E3 a thermistor problem?
Not necessarily. It reports that the water did not heat in time. The element, relay or limit thermostat may be the cause.
