Newco Coffee Brewer Error Code E4: Tank Fill Error
E4 means water did not reach the fill probe in time. Power must be cycled to clear it. The manual says to check valve function and flow rate, and to replace the valve or increase the flow rate, and to check the probes for excess scale.
High: the tank cannot fill so the brewer cannot brew.

What does Newco error code E4 mean?
The brewer fills its tank until the water touches a fill probe. The control gives it a time limit: four minutes for the initial fill and one and a half minutes in normal operation. If the water has not reached the probe by then, the control shows E4 (Tank Fill Error) and stops. The manual says power must be cycled to clear it. The cause it lists is that the water did not reach the probe within the timeout period. Its actions are to check valve function and flow rate and replace the valve or increase the flow rate, and to check the probes for excess scale. A weak or blocked water supply and a probe covered in scale produce nearly the same result, which is why both are listed. Hard water, which is common, builds scale on probes sooner.

What you may notice
- E4 (Tank Fill Error) on the display
- Tank not filling or filling very slowly
- Brew cycle will not start
- Water hissing weakly from the inlet
Possible causes
Listed in Newco's documentation
- Water did not reach probe within timeout period (initial fill 4 minutes, normal operation 1.5 minutes)
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E4 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Inlet water valve slow to open or partly blocked
- Water supply low or shut off, or a kinked line
- Scale coating the fill probe so it does not sense water
- Water filter clogged and restricting flow
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check that the water supply to the brewer is on and that the line is not kinked.
- Switch the brewer off and on to clear E4, as the manual requires.
- Listen for water entering the tank and watch whether the fill is slow.
- If E4 returns, call for service.
- Tell the technician how often E4 happens and when the water filter was last changed.
How a technician diagnoses error code E4
- Read the display and confirm E4 and which fill type was running.
- Measure supply pressure and flow at the brewer inlet.
- Check the inlet valve function and the filter.
- Inspect the fill probes for scale and descale if needed.
- Replace the valve or raise the flow rate, then run an initial fill and a normal fill.
- Inlet valve and fill probe checks involve live circuits near water.
- Flow rate must be measured with proper instruments.
- Descaling the tank means opening it up and handling the probes.
How error code E4 differs from similar codes
E4 is a tank fill timeout. The Bistro Touch brewers show a Fill Time Out Error with a longer cause list.
