Varimixer Mixer Error Code OL02: Periodic Overload
OL02 on a Varimixer ERGO mixer is a periodic overload. Reduce the content in the bowl and use the same reset routine: emergency stop, open the screen, reduce content, close the guard, release the stop and double press to reset.
Medium: the mixer stops to protect itself, and a smaller or smoother batch usually clears it.
What does Varimixer error code OL02 mean?
Where OL01 is a load that stays high, OL02 is one that rises and falls in a pattern. The control sees repeated peaks in the motor load, and when they pass the limit it stops the mixer and shows OL02. The manual calls it a periodic overload and gives the same response as for other overloads: reduce the content in the bowl. A lumpy, sticky or uneven mix can cause it, as can a bowl in which the product forms a mass that the agitator drags once per turn. The reset routine is the same as for OL01: press the emergency stop, open the screen, reduce the content, close the guard, release the stop and double press. If OL02 keeps coming up on ordinary batches, something mechanical or electrical is making the load uneven, and a technician should look at it.
Affected models and control systems
Varimixer ERGO100 and ERGO150 mixers with the VL-5 touch display, from the ERGO operating instructions (Varimixer USA, printed edition REV. - 3/27/2024).
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- OL02 on the touch display
- Mixer stops after several turns, not at once
- Heavy, jerky sound as the agitator turns
- Mass of dough riding up the agitator
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code OL02 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Periodic overload from too much content in the bowl
- Dough forming a ball that the agitator drags each turn
- Agitator catching on the bowl at one point
- Loose coupling or worn gear causing an uneven load
- Batch too sticky for the chosen speed
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press the emergency stop.
- Open the screen and remove part of the product, loosening any mass wrapped around the agitator.
- Close the guard and release the emergency stop.
- Double press to reset and restart at a lower speed.
- If OL02 returns on ordinary batches, note the recipe and speed and call a technician.
How a technician diagnoses error code OL02
- Read the code and compare it with earlier overload codes.
- Run the mixer empty and listen for an uneven load or knocking.
- Check the agitator clearance to the bowl.
- Check the gearing and coupling for wear.
- Measure the motor current through a turn.
- Replace the worn part.
- Checking the load pattern means measuring current on the live motor circuit.
- Gearing and couplings have to be disassembled to inspect.
- The agitator clearance is set to the maker's specification.
How error code OL02 differs from similar codes
OL01 is a load that stays high, OL03 is a blocked mixer.

What is the difference between OL01 and OL02?
OL01 is a sustained load that is too high. OL02 is a load that peaks repeatedly.
Can I just reset and continue?
Reset after reducing the content. Resetting a full bowl brings the code straight back.
Is OL02 a motor problem?
Not usually. Look at the batch first.
