WMF Automatic Coffee Machine Error Code 9678: Right Grinder Blocked
Code 9678 on a WMF 5000 S+ or a WMF 1500 F with internal storage means the right grinder is blocked. A bean, a stone or a hard bit has jammed it, so the machine stops using that grinder. Switch off, unplug, free the grinder from the hopper side with the multitool and call us if the code returns.
Medium: the right grinder is out of use until it is freed, but the other functions usually continue.

What does WMF error code 9678 mean?
When the right grinder cannot turn its burrs, the motor strains and the control sees it. To avoid burning out the motor, the machine stops using that grinder and displays code 9678. Drinks that depend on the right hopper are no longer available, and staff see the code in place of them. What jams a grinder is usually foreign: a stone that traveled with the beans, a bean that wedged between the burrs, or beans that have packed together. A grind set too fine makes jams more likely, since the motor is working against less clearance. The owner's manual describes how to free it from the hopper side: unplug the machine, take off the hopper, turn the grinder disk counterclockwise using only the hopper multitool, then clean the hopper and put it back. Frequent repeats suggest either a coarser setting or worn burrs.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the WMF 5000 S+ and to the WMF 1500 F with internal storage, right bean hopper side, per the WMF 5000 S+ user manual section 8.2.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

- Foreign object in a bulk bag refilled into the right hopper
- Moisture from a wet scoop making beans stick together
- Burrs worn so unevenly that beans catch at one point
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the machine off and unplug it.
- Remove the bean hopper and turn the grinder disk counterclockwise, using only the hopper multitool.
- Clean the hopper, put it back and switch the machine on.
- If this happens often, set the grinding degree one stage coarser.
- If the code returns, call us and note the beans in use.
How a technician diagnoses error code 9678
- Read the code and confirm it is the right grinder.
- Remove the hopper and inspect the beans and the grinder inlet.
- Turn the burrs by hand with power off.
- Check burr wear and grind setting.
- Measure motor current while grinding.
- Replace burrs or the grinder motor if the readings support it.
- The burrs are sharp and the grinder motor runs on mains voltage.
- Only the multitool should go near the burrs, and anything else risks injury and damage.
- Current and wear checks need the machine opened and the grinder calibrated afterward.
How error code 9678 differs from similar codes
9678 and 9679 both mean the right grinder is blocked; 9619 is the left grinder.
