Before the electronic 60 Series, Kold-Draft machines used relay controls. This group covers the older 30, 40 and 50 series, such as the GT331, GT341, GT551, GB431, GB634, GB1224 and GB1254, and the earlier 250 and 260 machines. The oldest ran on R-502 refrigerant and later ones on R-404a.
These machines show no error codes at all. We diagnose them by watching the cycle: water plate, fill, freeze, harvest. Many are still making ice in bars and restaurants.
We check water supply and scale, the plate and probe, the relays and the condenser. Because parts are harder to find on the oldest units, we say plainly when a repair is not worth it. Parts for the oldest units can take time to find, and we tell you that up front.

No. They use relays and timers, so we diagnose by watching the cycle and testing each part. It takes a bit longer than reading a code.
Why does the refrigerant matter?
The oldest machines used R-502, and later ones used R-404a. Knowing which refrigerant you have tells us which service procedures apply to the machine in front of us.
