IPSO Washer Error Code E Ub: Load Out of Balance

E Ub on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor means the control could not balance the load and stopped the spin. Open the door once the lock releases, spread the wet goods evenly and run the cycle again. If a well-balanced load still triggers it, the balance switches or suspension need a technician.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: the machine protects itself and recovers once the load is rebalanced.

What does IPSO error code E Ub mean?

During extract, the drum has to settle into a steady rotation before the control lets it climb to full spin speed. As the speed builds, the control watches whether the cabinet is moving more than the balance system allows. When the load is lopsided, the drum wobbles instead of settling, and the control abandons the extract rather than let the cabinet shake. The display then reads E Ub, and the cycle ends or pauses with the goods still soaking wet. The manual's reasoning is simple: one large or knotted item, a load far too small or far too large for the drum, or goods packed unevenly are the usual reasons. That is why the remedy is to redistribute the load and run the cycle again. It is a protective stop, not a sign that the washer has broken. It becomes a service matter only when a properly sized, evenly spread load keeps triggering it, because then the problem may be in the balance sensing or in the suspension that carries the drum.

Affected models and control systems

This page covers the IPSO CHM495R family of washer-extractors with the front-end control, in the 20 to 100 lb range. Other controller generations use different codes and numbers.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Spin stops early or never reaches full speed
  • Goods come out heavy and dripping wet
  • Cabinet shakes or thumps as the spin starts
  • E Ub on the display with the cycle ended or paused

Possible causes

Listed in IPSO's documentation

  • Load size and distribution
  • Single heavy or tangled items
  • Balance switches and suspension
  • Drive, if a normal load still shakes

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E Ub on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A single bulky item such as a rug or mop head that rides to one side
  • A small load that cannot form an even layer around the drum
  • Worn suspension that lets the drum drift off center
  • A balance switch that trips at normal vibration

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Wait for the door lock to release, then open the door.
  2. Pull the goods apart, undo knots and spread them around the drum.
  3. Remove oversized pieces and wash them separately, then restart the cycle.
  4. If E Ub returns with a balanced, normal-size load, note the load weight and what was in it for the service call.

How a technician diagnoses error code E Ub

  1. Read the code history to see how often E Ub appears and at what spin step.
  2. Run a correctly sized test load and watch the drum for visible wobble during ramp-up.
  3. Inspect the suspension, shock mounts and drum movement with the machine locked out.
  4. Test the balance switch operation with a meter and check that it trips at the right travel.
  5. Check the drive and motor if the cabinet shakes with a normal load, then replace only the part that fails the test.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Testing balance switches and checking suspension means working around a heavy drum and live control wiring, which is safe only with lockout and training. Drive and motor tests involve 208-240 V circuits behind the panels. Guessing at parts can leave a spinning basket that is not properly protected.

E UbQuestions about IPSO error code E Ub
Can I keep running the washer after E Ub?

Yes, once the load is redistributed. Repeated retries with the same load will only repeat the stop.

Will E Ub clear itself?

The code goes away when you restart the cycle, but it returns if the cause is still there.

Is E Ub the same as a drive error?

No. E Ub is about load balance. The drive errors on this control start with Ed.
