IPSO Washer Error Code Ed01: Drive Link Error
Ed01 on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor is an SPI communication error between the front-end control and the motor drive. Switch the machine off at its disconnect, confirm the supply is on and steady, then power up. If Ed01 comes back, the 6-pin connection or the boards need a technician.
Medium: the machine cannot run, but the usual cause is a connection or supply issue.
What does IPSO error code Ed01 mean?
The CHM495R has two electronic parts that must talk constantly: the front-end control that runs the program, and the motor drive that turns the basket. They exchange data over an SPI link. Every time the control needs a speed or direction change, it sends a message and waits for the drive to answer. When no answer comes back, the control reports Ed01 and the basket will not turn, or the machine stops partway through a cycle. The manual gives three steps: power down, verify input power and the 6-pin connection, then power up. The reasoning is that a brief supply dip or a loose connector is far more common than a dead board, so those are ruled out before anyone considers replacing parts. The connector check is behind covers and belongs to a technician, but the supply check is something staff can confirm at the disconnect and at the breaker.
Affected models and control systems
The CHM495R family of washer-extractors with the front-end control, 20 to 100 lb. Other controller generations use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Basket will not turn at the start of a cycle
- Machine stops partway through a wash
- Ed01 shown on the display
- Cycle freezes after power returns from a dip
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- Input power at the machine
- The 6-pin connection between control and drive
- Wiring along the link
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Ed01 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A supply that sags when a large dryer or pump starts on the same circuit
- A connector pin that backed out after years of cabinet vibration
- A drive board that no longer answers messages
- Moisture or lint on the link connector
Safe checks before calling for service
- Open the machine's disconnect to power it off.
- Check that the breaker is on and the supply to the machine is steady.
- Keep the covers closed; the connector check belongs to a technician.
- Power up again, and if Ed01 returns, note when it appears (start-up or mid-cycle) for the service call.
How a technician diagnoses error code Ed01
- Confirm line voltage at the machine terminals with a meter under load.
- Power down and reseat the 6-pin connector between control and drive, checking for backed-out pins.
- Inspect the link wiring for chafing, heat marks and damaged insulation.
- Swap in a known-good link harness if available, and retest.
- Replace the drive or front-end control only after the link and supply test clean.
- Connector and supply tests happen next to live 208-240 V drive circuitry. Lifting covers without lockout risks shock. Boards also hold stored parameters, so swapping one blindly can create new problems.

Can I use the machine when Ed01 shows?
No. With no link to the drive the basket may not turn at all, so a cycle will not finish.
Will a restart clear Ed01?
Sometimes, if it was a one-time supply dip. If it returns within a few cycles, the link itself needs testing.
Is Ed01 a motor problem?
Not directly. It means the control and drive cannot communicate. The motor may be perfectly fine.
