IPSO Washer Error Code Ed06: Drive Overheating
Ed06 on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor is a thermal error: the power module in the motor drive reached a high IPM temperature and stopped the motor. Switch the machine off, let it cool and keep the area around it clear. If it repeats, the drive needs cleaning and testing.
Medium: the machine stops but usually recovers once cooled, if the cause is airflow.
What does IPSO error code Ed06 mean?
The power module in the motor drive, called the IPM, produces heat whenever it drives the motor, and a heat sink carries that heat away to the surrounding air. The drive watches the module temperature. When it goes past its limit, the drive stops the motor so the module is not destroyed, and the control shows Ed06. Operators see the machine quit after a run of heavy back-to-back loads, or on a hot afternoon. The manual lists power down and verify convection around the drive heat sink. Lint buildup, blocked airflow and a hot laundry room are the main reasons the heat cannot escape. In a summer, a laundry room without good ventilation can push the drive close to its limit even with light loads. A temperature circuit that reads falsely high is possible but less likely than poor airflow.
Affected models and control systems
The CHM495R family of washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Machine stops after several heavy loads in a row
- Ed06 on the display
- Cabinet warm near the drive
- Error clears after cooling, then returns later in the day
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- Poor airflow around the drive heat sink
- Heavy lint and dust coating the drive
- A hot laundry room with poor ventilation
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Ed06 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Cabinet vents blocked by baskets or carts
- A drive cooling path packed with lint
- Ambient temperature above the machine's rating
- A temperature circuit giving a falsely high reading
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the machine off and let it cool fully.
- Keep the space around the machine clear and the room as cool as you can.
- Space out heavy loads until we have checked the drive.
- Ask us to clean and test the drive if the code repeats, and note the room temperature.
How a technician diagnoses error code Ed06
- Read the code history and see whether Ed06 follows long runs or hot periods.
- Inspect the vents and the drive heat sink for lint and dust, with power locked out.
- Measure room temperature and clearances against the installation limits.
- Check the temperature circuit against a reference reading once the drive is cold.
- Replace the drive only if it overheats with clean airflow and a normal room.
- Cleaning the heat sink means opening a panel next to live 208-240 V drive circuitry. A drive's capacitors hold charge after shutoff. Telling a real overheating problem from a false temperature reading takes meter work.

Related IPSO washer error codes
Can I run the washer again once it cools?
Yes, with lighter loads. If Ed06 returns quickly, the drive needs attention.
Will a fan on the machine help?
Better airflow in the room can help, but do not point a fan so it blows lint onto the drive.
Is Ed06 a motor overheat?
No. It is the drive's own power module temperature.
