IPSO Washer Error Code Ed09: Current Sensor Error

Ed09 on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor means the drive's current sensor was not operating properly at startup, so it would not run the motor. The manual calls for a restart. A repeat points to the sensor circuit on the drive board and needs a technician.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the machine will not start a step, but a restart often clears it.

What does IPSO error code Ed09 mean?

The motor drive measures the current flowing to the motor, and it uses that reading to control speed and to protect itself. The first thing it does at startup is check that the current sensor is working. If the sensor is not reading as expected, the drive cannot trust any current value, so it refuses to run the motor at all and the control posts Ed09. Operators see the machine stop at the start of a step with the code on the display. The manual calls for restarting, which makes the drive repeat its startup check; a brief supply dip or a glitch can make the check fail once. A repeat points to the sensor circuit on the drive board. That circuit is a sealed part of the drive, not something the operator can reach, and checking it means opening live covers.

Affected models and control systems

The CHM495R family of washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Machine stops at the start of a step
  • Ed09 on the display
  • Basket never begins to move
  • Code returns each time a cycle starts

Possible causes

Listed in IPSO's documentation

  • A sensor circuit on the drive that is not operating properly

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Ed09 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A failed current sensor circuit on the drive board
  • A weak supply during drive startup
  • A poor connector contact at the drive
  • Signs of heat or water damage on the drive board

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Restart the machine by switching power off and on, following the manual.
  2. Watch whether the code returns as soon as a cycle starts.
  3. Do not remove the drive cover, since the drive holds live parts.
  4. If Ed09 repeats, book service with us and note how soon it returned.

How a technician diagnoses error code Ed09

  1. Read the code history and see whether Ed09 appears at every power-up.
  2. Measure supply voltage at the machine during startup.
  3. Inspect the drive board for heat marks, moisture and loose connectors.
  4. Compare drive behavior with the motor disconnected to isolate the sensor circuit.
  5. Replace the drive only after confirming the supply and connections.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The drive holds live 208-240 V parts and charged capacitors even with power off. Judging a sensor circuit takes meter work on the board itself. A wrong diagnosis means buying an expensive drive that does not fix the problem.

Ed09Questions about IPSO error code Ed09
Is Ed09 dangerous to keep restarting?

A single restart is what the manual calls for. Repeated restarts do not help if the sensor has failed.

Does Ed09 mean the motor is bad?

No. The drive stops before the motor ever gets current.

Is Ed09 related to Ed08?

They both involve current, but Ed08 is too much current, while Ed09 is a sensor that cannot be trusted.
