UniMac UC/UW Washer-Extractor Error Code E dL: Door Lock Error

E dL on UniMac UC-series and UW pocket hardmount washer-extractors means the door lock missed its deadline to engage or release. Power the machine down and up, wait for the drum to stop, and never force the door. Call us if E dL keeps returning.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the lock failed its timing, and the door must not be forced while the drum may still be moving.

What does UniMac error code E dL mean?

E dL is the door lock error on UniMac UC-series and UW pocket hardmount washer-extractors. The control expects the lock to engage after the door closes and to let go after the cycle finishes. UC machines allow 10 seconds for either step, and UW machines allow 5 seconds to unlock. When the lock misses its deadline, the control cannot be sure the door is secured or free, so the batch stops. On UC machines the display alternates E dL with the word door for up to a minute.

The cause sits in the lock assembly and its switch, the strike alignment and wear on the door, the wiring and connector at the lock, or the control output that drives the lock. The maker's operator step is to power the machine down and up, then retry. Wait for the drum to stop completely and for the lock to let go by itself before anyone tries the door.

This is different from the QN version of E dL, which reports a door that unlocked mid-batch.

Affected models and control systems

E dL in this form is listed for the CHM495R family washer-extractors (20 to 100 lb, UC series) and the PHM1263R family pocket hardmount washer-extractors (UWL, UWN and UWU 035 to 125), both with the front-end control.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • The display shows E dL, or alternates E dL with door on UC machines
  • The door will not open after the cycle
  • The lock does not click when the door is closed
  • The batch stops without finishing

Possible causes

Listed in UniMac's documentation

  • Lock assembly and its switch
  • Strike alignment and wear on the door
  • Wiring and connector at the lock
  • Control output that drives the lock

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E dL on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Lock solenoid weakened so it needs longer than the allowed seconds
  • Strike worn so the latch engages late
  • Lock switch contacts dirty from detergent splash
  • Wire at the lock connector pulled by the door's movement

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Power the machine down and up, then retry, as the maker's operator step says.
  2. Wait for the drum to stop completely and for the lock to let go by itself.
  3. Do not pull, pry or bridge anything to free the door.
  4. If the door stays shut or E dL keeps returning, call us.

How a technician diagnoses error code E dL

  1. Read the code and note whether it was engaging or releasing that failed.
  2. Lock out the machine and inspect the lock, strike and door alignment.
  3. Check the lock wiring and connector.
  4. Time the lock action and test its switch with a meter.
  5. Test the control output to the lock; replace the lock, strike or board as the tests show.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The door interlock protects staff from a spinning drum and must be repaired with care.
  • Freeing a locked door safely may mean releasing the lock by a service method.
  • The lock output carries mains-level voltage to the solenoid.

How error code E dL differs from similar codes

On UniMac QN machines, E dL is a fatal door unlocked mid-batch error, which is a different event from the timeout described here.
