UniMac Washer-Extractor Error Code E Ht: Heat Error

E Ht means a heated UniMac QN, UC-series or UW washer-extractor could not bring its water to the programmed temperature in time. Confirm the hot supply is on and call us before more heat-dependent loads are washed.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the machine keeps running, but a cold wash can fail linens that need heat.

CHM495R family washer-extractor front-end control (20-100 lb) / PHM1263R family pocket hardmount washer-extractor (UWL/UWN/UWU 035-125) front-end control / CHM1792C family washer-extractor (QN models, 20-100 lb) front-end control

What does UniMac error code E Ht mean?

E Ht means a heated UniMac QN, UC-series or UW pocket hardmount washer-extractor could not bring its water to the programmed temperature in time. The control gives the heat a fixed time to work. QN machines wait 2 hours, and UC and UW machines stop waiting at 120 minutes. When the time runs out, the control stops trying to heat. On UC and UW controls the heater output then stays off for the rest of the batch, so the wash may finish cold, which matters for linens that need a hot cycle.

The cause lies with the hot water arriving at the machine, the heater element and its contactor, the accuracy of the temperature sensor, or the water level when heat is requested. On a QN machine, open the door or press any key to clear the code. On the others, power down and back up.

Confirm the hot supply valve is open and the building water heater is working before the next load.

Affected models and control systems

E Ht is listed for the CHM495R family washer-extractors (UC series, 20 to 100 lb), the PHM1263R family pocket hardmount washer-extractors (UWL, UWN and UWU 035 to 125) and the CHM1792C family QN washer-extractors, all with the front-end control.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • The display shows E Ht after a long heat step
  • Wash water is lukewarm at the end
  • The heated cycle runs far longer than usual
  • Linens come out cooler-washed than expected

Possible causes

Listed in UniMac's documentation

  • Hot water temperature arriving at the machine
  • Heater element and its contactor
  • Temperature sensor accuracy
  • Water level when heat is requested

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E Ht on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Building water heater turned down or out of service
  • Element scaled over so it heats slowly
  • Contactor contacts burned and passing little power
  • Water level too high because the sensor tube is blocked, so heating takes too long

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. On a QN machine, open the door or press any key to clear the code. On the others, power down and back up.
  2. Confirm the hot supply valve is open and the building water heater is working.
  3. Start a short hot cycle and see whether the water warms.
  4. If E Ht returns, call us before more heat-dependent loads are washed.

How a technician diagnoses error code E Ht

  1. Read the code and note how long the heat step ran.
  2. Measure hot supply temperature at the inlet.
  3. Test the heater element and contactor with a meter.
  4. Compare the temperature sensor with a thermometer.
  5. Check the water level at the time heat is requested.
  6. Replace the element, contactor or sensor as the tests show.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Element and contactor tests are live work on 208 to 240 V circuits.
  • Heat sources and hot water carry burn and scald risks.
  • Sensor accuracy needs a reference thermometer.

How error code E Ht differs from similar codes

The wait for heat is 2 hours on QN machines and 120 minutes on UC and UW machines, with the heater held off afterward on UC and UW.

E HtQuestions about UniMac error code E Ht
Why is my wash cold?

On UC and UW controls the heater stays off after E Ht for the rest of the batch.

Could it be the building heater?

Yes. Check that first, since the machine can only heat what arrives.

Is the batch safe for sanitizing needs?

Not if it needs a hot cycle. Rewash after the heat is restored.
