UniMac Washer-Extractor Error Code EI01: IR Transmission Failed
EI01 means a transmission over the infrared link failed. Only the data link is involved, so cycles keep working. Re-aim the external device at the infrared window and try the transfer again.
Low: only the infrared data link is involved and production cycles are unaffected.

What does UniMac error code EI01 mean?
A UniMac UW pocket hardmount washer-extractor has an infrared window on the control. A hand-held or computer tool aimed at that window can read or load the machine's programming. EI01 is posted when a transmission over that link does not get through. The washer is not malfunctioning in the way a drive or heating message would suggest, since the infrared link has no part in washing, draining or spinning. Production cycles keep running and the message goes away once a transfer succeeds. The manual points at four places: how the external device is aligned to the window, film or dirt on the window, distance and room light during the transfer, and the infrared circuit on the control if it never works. Most of these are things the person holding the tool can control. Holding the tool steady and close, wiping the window, and avoiding strong light fixes nearly all cases.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the PHM1263R family of UniMac UW pocket hardmount washer-extractors, models UWL, UWN and UWU 035 to 125, such as the UWL035K12. EI01 is part of the infrared message group on this control.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- EI01 on the display after a transfer attempt
- Programming tool reporting a failed send
- Normal cycles running as usual
- Transfer that works after re-aiming
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- Alignment of the external device to the infrared window
- Film or dirt on the window
- Distance and room light during the transfer
- The infrared circuit on the control if it never works
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EI01 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A programming tool with a weak battery that sends a faint signal
- Strong sunlight or bright fixtures near the window that wash out the signal
- A window cover or cabinet decal that partly blocks the infrared path
Safe checks before calling for service
- Re-aim the external device at the infrared window on the control and attempt the transfer again.
- Wipe the window with a clean dry cloth.
- Hold the device steady and close to the window.
- If EI01 appears on every attempt, note the tool used and call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code EI01
- Read the code and confirm that production cycles run normally.
- Check the programming tool settings and battery, and test it on a known good machine if available.
- Inspect and clean the infrared window and check for glare or obstruction.
- Run a controlled transfer at a short distance and observe the result.
- Test the control's infrared receiver only if every tool fails.
- Control board work means opening panels near live control circuits.
- Judging a receiver problem needs a second known-good tool for comparison.
- Reloading programming with the wrong data can change how the machine washes.

Can I keep washing?
Yes. EI01 involves only the data link, so cycles continue normally.
Will it clear by itself?
It clears when a transfer succeeds. Without a new attempt the message stays in the log only.
Is EI01 the same as EI02?
No. EI01 is a failed transmission. EI02 is a transfer that started and then timed out.
