UniMac Washer-Extractor Error Code E bELt: Broken Belt
E bELt means a UniMac QN washer-extractor believes the drive belt has broken. Keep people away from the machine and leave it off. A technician should inspect the belt before the washer returns to work.
High: a possible broken belt with a drum that may still turn, so the washer must stay out of service.

What does UniMac error code E bELt mean?
E bELt is the broken belt error on a UniMac QN washer-extractor such as the UCA020QN. The control does not measure the belt directly. Instead it watches the door. When basket rotation ends, the door normally stays locked while the drum coasts down. If the door unlocks right away, the control reads that as proof the basket is no longer being driven the way it should be, and it concludes that the drive belt has broken.
That is why this code deserves caution. The basket may still be turning even though the control thinks it has stopped, and the door may release at a moment when it should not. Do not reach into the washer, and do not try to open it by force. The machine should stay out of service until we have looked at the belt, the pulleys and the motor alignment. The display shows E bELt and the washer will not carry on with production until it has been inspected.
Affected models and control systems
This code is listed for the CHM1792C family, the QN washer-extractors from 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. The example model in the manual is the UCA020QN.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- The display shows E bELt right after spin ends
- The door unlocks sooner than usual after the drum slows
- The drum may keep rolling after the cycle stops
- A squeal or flapping sound from behind the front panel before the code
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- Drive belt condition and tension
- Motor and pulley alignment
- Sensor feedback of basket rotation
- Door unlock timing
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E bELt on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Belt stretched or glazed from long use, so it slips and finally snaps
- Pulley that has worked loose or shifted on its shaft
- Motor mount that has moved, throwing the belt off line
- Door unlock output that releases early and mimics a belt loss
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the machine off and let the drum coast to a full stop.
- Do not open the door until the lock releases on its own.
- Never force the door, and keep people clear of the washer.
- Leave the washer off, tag it, and tell us what the display showed and when.
How a technician diagnoses error code E bELt
- Read the full code and confirm it appeared at the end of rotation.
- Remove power, lock out the machine and open the guards.
- Inspect the belt for breaks, glazing and cracks, and check its tension.
- Check pulley and motor alignment and the mounting hardware.
- Check the rotation feedback and the door unlock timing against the belt condition.
- Replace the belt and set tension, then run a test cycle watching the coast-down.
- The belt sits next to a heavy basket that can keep turning after power is removed.
- Belt tension and pulley alignment need measuring and setting with tools, or the new belt will fail again.
- Opening the guards on a 20 to 100 lb machine means lockout and live high-voltage supply nearby.

Can I run light loads while waiting for service?
No. If the belt is broken, the basket is not driven normally and the door can release early, so the washer should stay off.
Will E bELt clear if I switch the power off?
The display may clear, but the belt does not repair itself. Running again risks a moving drum behind an unlocked door.
Does this code mean the motor is bad?
Not necessarily. The control only noticed the door unlocking early, so the belt, pulleys and motor alignment all need checking.
