UniMac Industrial Washer SPI Error: Output Board Not Responding
SPI Error means the UniLinc control cannot communicate with the Output Board. The cycle is aborted, an audio alarm sounds and the event is logged. Clear the Cycle Aborted Error Menu and return to the Cycle Menu, and call a technician if it repeats.
High: the control cannot command the machine, so cycles abort.

What does UniMac SPI Error mean?
The UniLinc control does not switch the machine's valves, motors and heaters directly. It sends commands to an Output Board, which does the switching, and the two talk over an SPI link. If the control cannot communicate with the board, it has no way to run the cycle. It then aborts the cycle, shows the Cycle Aborted Error Menu with SPI Error, sounds the audio alarm and records it in the SPI count, listed as screen 3 of 4 on the Alarms display. The manual's only operator action is to clear the menu and return to the Cycle Menu. A one-off may follow a power disturbance. A repeated SPI Error points to the cable between the control and the board, the board itself or electrical noise, and these need a technician.
Affected models and control systems
UniMac UniLinc control on the UW35TV, UW60TV, UW80TV, UW100TV, UW125TV and UW150TV washer-extractors and the UWL, UWN and UWU 035-150 T3 models.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- SPI Error on the display
- Audio alarm
- Cycle aborted
- Machine outputs not responding
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind SPI Error on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Ribbon or communication cable loose between the control and the Output Board
- Output Board failing
- Electrical noise or a power disturbance
- Control not communicating after a surge
Safe checks before calling for service
- Clear the Cycle Aborted Error Menu and return to the Cycle Menu.
- Turn the machine off, wait a minute and turn it on again.
- Try a short cycle to see whether the error returns.
- If it repeats, stop using the machine.
- Note the SPI count on the Alarms screen and tell the technician.
How a technician diagnoses SPI Error
- Read the SPI count and when the errors happened.
- Check the supply voltage and grounding for disturbances.
- Inspect the communication cable and connectors between the control and board.
- Reseat the connectors with power off.
- Replace the board or control if communication stays lost, then run a full cycle to confirm the count does not climb again.
- The Output Board switches line-voltage loads.
- Reseating connectors means opening the electrical compartment.
- A board or control swap needs the right parts and a configuration check.
How SPI Error differs from similar codes
SPI Error is a communication loss. Sensor errors report a reading, and door errors report the door.

What does SPI mean here?
It is the link between the control and the Output Board. The manual names it as SPI Error.
Will turning the machine off and on fix it?
It may after a power disturbance. A repeated error needs a technician.
Is the board broken?
Possibly, but the cable and connectors are checked first.
