IPSO Washer-Extractor Error Code E FS: Frame Switch Open
E FS on an IPSO CHM495R washer-extractor means the control found the frame balance switch open, and it stopped the extract to protect the machine. Turn the machine off, spread the linen evenly and rerun the extract. Repeated stops with an even load need a technician.
Low: a protective stop that usually clears once the load is spread out.

What does IPSO error code E FS mean?
The frame balance switch sits where it can feel the frame move. When the load is lopsided during extract, the frame sways further than normal and the switch opens. The control reads that as a sign that the machine is about to shake itself hard, so it stops the extract and shows E FS. Production staff see a shaking washer-extractor or a spin that never finishes. A power-down clears the message, according to the manual. A bunched load is the usual cause, with a bent switch or tired suspension behind repeats. This code is specific to the frame switch circuit. It tells the technician to look at the switch bracket, the suspension and the wiring to the switch before suspecting the drive. With large linen batches, a single wet blanket or a mat can pull the whole load to one side of the drum.
Affected models and control systems
CHM495R washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control. Other controller generations use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Machine shakes hard during extract
- E FS on the display
- Spin stops before it reaches full speed
- Linen sits wet and bunched in the drum
Possible causes
Listed in IPSO's documentation
- Frame switch open because the frame swayed
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E FS on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A lopsided load that sways the washer frame during extract
- A frame switch bracket that is loose or badly adjusted
- Suspension worn after years of heavy batches
- Wiring to the frame switch that is damaged or loose
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the machine off to clear the message.
- After the lock releases, spread the linen evenly.
- Take out oversized pieces, then rerun the extract.
- Ask us to look if repeated batches stop, even when the linen is spread out evenly in the drum.
How a technician diagnoses error code E FS
- Read the code history and see whether E FS follows particular linen types.
- Inspect the frame switch bracket and its gap, with power locked out.
- Check the switch for correct open and closed states by hand.
- Examine the suspension and mounting points for wear and looseness.
- Check the switch wiring, then replace the switch only if it fails the test.
- The frame switch is a safety input located next to a heavy moving frame. Setting its gap wrongly can either cause nuisance stops or let a violent spin continue. Suspension work involves lifting and supporting a loaded machine.

Is E FS the same as E Ub?
They are close cousins. E FS is the frame switch opening, while E Ub is the control's general unbalance stop.
Can I run the machine again right away?
Yes, after rebalancing. Do not run the same lopsided load again.
Will E FS clear by itself?
Power-down clears the message, but it returns when the switch or the load is the same.
