Common Star problems we fix

Standing pilot keeps going out
Griddle will not hold temperature
Uneven heat across the plate
One electric section stays cold
Grease trap overflowing
Gas smell near the griddle
Ultra-Max Gas and Electric Models
Star Ultra-Max griddles are common in diners and cafes. The 800 series is gas, in 24, 36, 48, 60 and 72 inch widths, and the 700 series is electric. Gas models with an MA suffix have manual valves and a standing pilot. The T and TA models use a snap-action thermostat, which has no standing pilot, and the TSA and TCHSA models have a thermostat with a safety valve, the TCHSA having a chrome plate.
What We Check First
If you smell gas near the griddle, get out of the building and call the gas utility from a safe spot outside before you call us. For other problems, on a manual-valve griddle a pilot that goes out leads us to the pilot, the gas supply and drafts. On a snap-action model, a griddle that will not hold temperature points to the thermostat and its valve. Uneven heat across the plate sends us to burners, plate level and grease buildup. Electric models carry one thermostat for every 12 inch section, so when one section stays cold we test that section’s thermostat and element.
Grease and Older Griddles
A griddle is only as dependable as its cleaning routine, and humid coastal air in Miami and Houston speeds up rust on plates and valves. We tell you plainly when an older griddle is worth another repair, and we confirm parts for your size and model before the visit. You get a written price first. Repairs carry a 30-day workmanship warranty.

MA models have manual valves and a standing pilot. TA models use a snap-action thermostat with no standing pilot. We service both, and we confirm parts for your model before the visit.
Why is only part of my Star electric griddle hot?
Each 12 inch section has its own thermostat, so one cold section usually points to that section's thermostat or heating element. We test both and tell you the price first.
Can you repair my older Star griddle?
Yes. We repair Ultra-Max 700 and 800 series griddles, including older ones. If the plate or valves are past saving, we tell you before any work begins.
