Newco Coffee Brewer Error Code E2: Shorted Thermistor
E2 means the brewer found extremely low resistance from the lower thermistor, which the manual calls a shorted thermistor. It resets itself once the condition clears. The manual says to check or replace the thermistor and to power off and on to reset.
High: the brewer cannot trust its water temperature reading.

What does Newco error code E2 mean?
The thermistor is the temperature sensor in the brewer's water tank, and its resistance should fall within a known range as the water warms. If the resistance drops extremely low, the way a shorted sensor or a pinched wire would look, the control shows E2 (Shorted Thermistor). The manual says the low reading comes from the lower thermistor and adds that the upper thermistor is also bad. As with E1, it states that the brewer auto-resets once the condition clears. The actions are the same pair: check or replace the thermistor, and power off and on to reset. A reading that is too low is as unusable as a reading that is missing, because the control would believe the water is hot when it may not be. For that reason it holds the brewer back instead of letting it run on a bad reading.

What you may notice
- E2 (Shorted Thermistor) shown on the display
- Water not reaching brewing temperature, or brew cycle blocked
- Display clearing and the error returning later
Possible causes
Listed in Newco's documentation
- Resistance extremely low from lower thermistor; upper thermistor is also bad
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E2 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Thermistor leads touching each other or the tank where the insulation is worn
- Thermistor element failed shorted
- Scale or moisture bridging the thermistor connection
- Pinched wire at the harness near the tank
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch off the brewer and unplug it for one minute.
- Plug in and switch on again to do the manual's power off-and-on reset.
- If E2 returns, do not keep cycling the power; call for service.
- Look at the back and base of the brewer for water that could have reached the connections, without opening panels.
- Report when E2 began and whether it cleared on its own.
How a technician diagnoses error code E2
- Read the display and confirm E2.
- Inspect the thermistor leads and plug for chafing and shorts.
- Measure resistance with power off and compare it with the temperature table.
- Check the upper thermistor too, as the manual states it is also bad.
- Replace the failed thermistor and confirm normal temperature control.
- The thermistors sit in a tank of hot water with live heater circuits.
- A short can be anywhere along the harness, which means testing inside the cabinet.
- Resistance checks need a meter and the correct table.
How error code E2 differs from similar codes
E1 is the open version of this same sensor alarm, with extremely high resistance. E2 is extremely low resistance.

Does E2 reset by itself?
The manual says the brewer auto-resets once the condition clears.
What is the difference between E1 and E2?
E1 is an open thermistor and E2 is a shorted thermistor.
Is a power cycle enough?
The manual lists it as the reset. If the sensor is shorted, the error will return.
