What does Newco Heater Error mean?
The Bistro Touch control expects the water temperature to rise when the heater is on. If the heating does not go as expected, it stops and shows a Call For Service screen reading Heater Error. The manual lists three causes: the thermistor needs a reset, the tank element has failed, or the control board has failed. The first action is to perform a manual reset of the thermistor. The other two are replacing the tank element and replacing the control board, both marked as requiring service. The order tells you that a reset is worth a try first. If the thermistor resets and the brewer heats, nothing needs replacing. If the error returns, the heater itself or the board that drives it is the next suspect.

Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the brewer off and on and let it try to heat.
- Check that the water supply is on and the tank is full.
- Check that the brewer is plugged in firmly to a working outlet.
- If Heater Error returns, call for service.
- Tell the technician how long the brewer ran before the screen appeared.
How a technician diagnoses Heater Error
- Read the screen and confirm Heater Error.
- Do a manual reset of the thermistor and watch heat-up.
- Measure the tank element resistance and the supply to it.
- Check the thermistor reading against a thermometer.
- Replace the element or control board only after the tests.
- The tank element is on live heater wiring and hot water.
- The manual marks element and board replacement as requiring service.
- Resistance and supply checks need a meter.
How Heater Error differs from similar codes
Overheat Error is the opposite problem, an overheat condition, and lists a thermistor, relay and board.
