Pitco Commercial Fryer: No Lights at Power-Up
On a Pitco Solstice primary solid state control, no indicator lighting at turn-on means the control is not starting. The service manual says to verify the drain valve is closed, the magnetic proximity switch has continuity when closed, and 24 VAC is present at pin 1 and pin 5.
High: the control does not start, so the fryer cannot be used.
What does Pitco error code No lights at power-up mean?
When the controller is turned on, at least one indicator should light. If none do, the control is not getting what it needs to start. The service manual lists three items to verify. The drain valve must be closed. The magnetic proximity switch on it must have continuity when closed, because the control will not start with the drain valve reading open. And two voltages must be present on the controller: 24 VAC at pin 1, the supply, and 24 VAC at pin 5, which is the 24 VAC input from the DVI. These checks follow the path of power into the control. A missing voltage points toward the supply side or the drain valve interlock, rather than the controller itself. As with the other primary control patterns, the signal is only light behavior, so there is no text to read.
Affected models and control systems
Pitco Solstice and Solstice Supreme SG/SSH series high-efficiency gas fryers. This page covers the primary solid state control (manual p. 84).
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- No indicator lights at turn-on
- Fryer completely dark
- No heating or response
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code No lights at power-up on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Drain valve not fully closed so the interlock holds the control off
- Proximity switch with no continuity when closed
- No 24 VAC reaching pin 1 or pin 5
- Wiring or connector from the DVI to the control loose
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check that the fryer is plugged in or the power switch is on.
- Push the drain handle fully closed.
- Turn the fryer off and on once.
- Tell us whether any light comes on, and the model.
How a technician diagnoses error code No lights at power-up
- Verify the drain valve is closed.
- Check the magnetic proximity switch for continuity when closed.
- Measure 24 VAC at pin 1 and pin 5.
- Trace the supply back through the DVI if voltage is missing.
- Repair the connection or replace the failed part and retest.
- Measuring 24 VAC and tracing control wiring takes a meter and gas-appliance experience.
- The control sits in an appliance with gas, hot oil and live circuits.
How error code No lights at power-up differs from similar codes
No lights at all is a different signal from the lights that come on and go off at power-up, which points to the probe.

Is the control dead?
Not necessarily. The manual checks the drain interlock and two 24 VAC supplies first.
Why does the drain valve matter?
The control will not start with the drain valve reading open.
What voltages are checked?
24 VAC at pin 1 and 24 VAC at pin 5.
