Varimixer Mixer Error Code EE:04: Motor Thermal Sensor
EE:04 on a Varimixer ERGO mixer is the motor thermal sensor. Wait until the motor temperature has dropped; a countdown screen shows when the mixer is ready. Reduce the load or speed, and if it continues, contact technical assistance.
Medium: the mixer stops until the motor cools; cleared by waiting and a lighter load.
What does Varimixer error code EE:04 mean?
The main motor has a thermal sensor that watches its temperature. A long, heavy mix makes the motor work hard and warm, and when it passes its limit the control stops the mixer and shows EE:04. The mixer then shows a countdown screen, which tells you when it is ready again. This is protection, not a breakdown: the motor needs to cool before it runs again. The manual's steps are to wait for the temperature to drop and to reduce the load or speed. Dense dough at high speed, an overfilled bowl and blocked air around the motor make it more likely. In a hot kitchen the margin is smaller. If EE:04 appears on light work, or returns right after the countdown ends, the sensor or the motor needs testing by a technician.
Affected models and control systems
Applies to Varimixer ERGO100 and ERGO150 touch-display mixers. We read the ERGO operating instructions from Varimixer USA, edition 3/27/2024.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- EE:04 on the touch display
- Mixer stops, even mid-batch
- Countdown screen showing time until ready
- Motor housing hot to the touch
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EE:04 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Motor temperature above its limit, shown by the motor thermal sensor
- Dense dough run at high speed for too long
- Bowl overfilled beyond the rated capacity
- Air vents around the motor blocked
- Motor bearing or winding wearing and running hotter
Safe checks before calling for service
- Let the mixer sit until the countdown screen says it is ready.
- Clear anything blocking the air vents around the motor.
- Reduce the load or the mixing speed when you restart.
- Avoid overfilling the bowl.
- If EE:04 returns on light work, note the recipe, the batch size and the speed, and contact technical assistance.
How a technician diagnoses error code EE:04
- Read the code and note the load and time it appeared.
- Check the air path around the motor and clean it.
- Check the supply voltage while the motor runs.
- Measure motor current against its rating.
- Test the motor thermal sensor and its wiring.
- Replace the sensor or motor only after the tests.
- The main motor runs at line voltage.
- Motor current is measured on the live circuit.
- A winding that runs hot has to be tested before the mixer goes back into heavy use.
How error code EE:04 differs from similar codes
EE:08 is the internal frequency inverter running too hot. EE:04 is the motor itself.

Is it safe to restart right away?
Wait for the countdown screen to say the mixer is ready.
Is EE:04 a broken motor?
Not necessarily. It is a thermal protection signal, usually from heavy work.
When does it need service?
If it appears on light work or comes back straight after cooling.
