Varimixer Mixer Error Code OL01: Continuous Overload
OL01 on a Varimixer ERGO mixer is a continuous overload. Reduce the content in the bowl: press the emergency stop, open the security screen, take product out, close the bowl guard, release the emergency stop and double press to reset. If it comes back, call a technician.
Medium: the mixer stops to protect itself, and a smaller batch usually clears it.
What does Varimixer error code OL01 mean?
The mixer watches how hard the main motor is working. If the load stays too high for a sustained time, the control stops the mixing and shows OL01 on the touch display. The words in the manual are short: continuous overload, reduce the content in the bowl. Very stiff dough, a bowl filled beyond its rating, or an agitator that is too small or too large for the batch can all keep the load high for long enough. This is protection for the motor and the drive. The reset routine in the manual is deliberate and starts with the emergency stop, because you have to open the security screen to reach the bowl, and the machine must not be able to start while your hands are in the bowl area. Only after the guard is closed again and the stop released do you double press to reset. If OL01 appears on normal batches, the problem is beyond the batch.
Affected models and control systems
Applies to Varimixer ERGO100 and ERGO150 touch-display mixers. We read the ERGO operating instructions from Varimixer USA, edition 3/27/2024.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- OL01 on the touch display
- Mixer slows or stops during a stiff mix
- Motor and housing warm
- Code returns after reset if the bowl is still too full
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code OL01 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Continuous overload from too much content in the bowl
- Dough stiffer than the mixer's rating, such as low-hydration bread dough
- Wrong agitator for the product
- Worn motor bearing adding drag
- Drive limiting torque because of a low supply voltage
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press the emergency stop.
- Open the security screen and take part of the product out of the bowl.
- Close the bowl guard and release the emergency stop.
- Double press to reset, then restart at a lower speed with the smaller batch.
- If OL01 returns on a normal batch, note the recipe and batch weight and call a technician.
How a technician diagnoses error code OL01
- Read the code and the load history, and compare the batch with the rated capacity.
- Check the agitator and bowl for binding and the bowl lift position.
- Check the supply voltage while the mixer runs under load.
- Measure motor current against the nameplate.
- Check the motor bearings and the gearing for drag.
- Replace worn drive parts only after the load tests.
- Motor current is measured on the live main circuit.
- Drag in the gearing or bearings has to be found by disassembly.
- The reset routine involves the emergency stop and guard, which are safety devices.
How error code OL01 differs from similar codes
OL02 is a periodic overload and OL03 means the mixer is blocked. OL01 is the sustained overload.

Why do I have to press the emergency stop first?
The reset routine has you open the security screen and reach into the bowl, so the stop keeps the machine from starting.
Is OL01 a motor failure?
Not usually. It is a signal that the load was too high for too long.
When does OL01 need a technician?
When it appears on batches within the rated capacity.
