Rancilio Espresso Machine Error Code E15: Pressure Sensor 12 V Short
E15 on a Rancilio Classe 11 reads Short circuit 12V boiler pressure sensor: the 12 V supply that feeds the boiler pressure sensor is shorted. The manual gives no operator remedy, so switch the machine off and contact a Rancilio service technician.
High: the pressure sensor has no working supply and the boiler cannot be managed safely.

What does Rancilio error code E15 mean?
The boiler pressure sensor needs power as well as a signal wire. On the Classe 11 that power is a 12 volt supply from the board. E15 Short circuit 12V boiler pressure sensor means the supply side has shorted, so it is the power feeding the sensor that has a problem and not just the reading. The control monitors the current on that supply, and when it jumps, the board cuts the supply to protect itself. With the sensor unpowered, the control cannot read boiler pressure, and it cannot manage heating and steam safely, so the machine may stop heating or steaming until the circuit is repaired. A short here can come from the sensor itself, from damaged wiring beside the boiler, or from moisture in the connector. The manual lists the code without an operator remedy, so the cause has to be found by measuring.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the Classe 11 USB and Xcelsius espresso machines. We read the List of errors in the 07/2014 edition of the manual.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E15 on the display
- Machine will not heat or build steam
- Pressure reading missing
- Burning smell near the boiler wiring
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E15 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Sensor supply wire pinched against the boiler frame
- Sensor internally shorted on its supply pin
- Moisture in the sensor connector
- Board 12 V output failing under load
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the machine off at the main switch.
- Do not touch the wiring beside the boiler.
- Wipe up any water you can see on the outside, away from connectors.
- Do not try to restart the machine repeatedly.
- Contact a Rancilio service technician and tell them the code is E15.
How a technician diagnoses error code E15
- Read E15 and the error history.
- Disconnect the pressure sensor and measure the 12 V supply on the board.
- Check the supply wire for shorts to ground.
- Inspect the connector for moisture and corrosion.
- Test the sensor on a bench supply.
- Replace the sensor or the wire, then verify boiler pressure with a gauge.
- Measuring the supply means a meter on live board circuits.
- A shorted supply can damage the board.
- Wiring beside the boiler is hot, and the boiler may be pressurized.
How error code E15 differs from similar codes
E03 and E04 report a short or a broken wire on the pressure sensor signal, while E15 is a short on its 12 V supply.

What is the difference between E03 and E15?
E03 is a short on the signal wire. E15 is a short on the 12 V power supply to the sensor.
Will the boiler overheat?
The control cannot read pressure without the sensor, so do not run the machine until it is repaired.
Can I reset it by switching off?
The short remains, so the code can return right away.
