AccuTemp Steamer Ignition Module LED: Constant On

On an AccuTemp Evolution gas steamer with a power burner, an LED that stays on without blinking points to a problem inside the spark ignition module. Turn the steamer off and on first. If the LED goes out, the module is probably fine; if it stays lit, the module likely needs replacing.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the burner may not light, so the steamer may be unable to heat.

What does AccuTemp Ignition module LED: constant on mean?

The spark ignition module on an Evolution gas steamer reports with its LED. A blinking pattern gives a number, and each number names a condition such as blocked venting or ignition lockout. An LED that simply stays on, as in Ignition module LED: constant on, is different, because it does not name a condition at all. It suggests the module's own logic is not completing normally. Turning the steamer off and on is the first test. If the LED goes out and the steamer lights and cooks, the module is most likely fine and a momentary disturbance was to blame. If the LED stays lit after a power cycle, the module itself likely needs replacing. In the meantime the burner may not light, and the steamer will not heat. Wiring to the module and the control signal feeding it can also be to blame, so the module is not condemned until those have been checked. Whether the LED is on at power-up is worth noting, since a steady light at idle means something different from one that appears only when heat is called.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to the power burner ignition (spark) module on AccuTemp Evolution gas steamers, as described in the Evolution Gas/Propane service manual. Flash-count patterns on the same module mean other things.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • The module LED stays lit and does not blink
  • The burner does not light
  • The steamer does not heat
  • The LED goes out after a power cycle, then returns later

Possible causes

Listed in AccuTemp's documentation

  • Ignition module LED staying on after a power cycle
  • Ignition module itself failed
  • Wiring to the module open or loose
  • Control signal feeding the module wrong

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind Ignition module LED: constant on on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A module output relay that has welded or stuck, leaving the LED logic in a fixed state
  • A control signal wire feeding the module that has shorted to a supply wire, so the input never drops

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. If gas is ever in the air, walk outside and phone the gas company before anything else.
  2. Otherwise switch the steamer off and let it cool.
  3. Wait a moment and switch it on.
  4. If the steamer lights and cooks, keep an eye on it.
  5. If it does not, stop and call us. Do not open panels. Tell us whether the LED stayed on after the restart.

How a technician diagnoses Ignition module LED: constant on

  1. Observe the LED at power-up, at idle and during a heat call.
  2. Check supply voltage to the module and the heat demand signal arriving.
  3. Inspect module wiring and connectors for damage or looseness.
  4. Compare the LED behavior with the manual's flash table to rule out a counted code.
  5. Replace the module only after supply and signals test correctly.
! Leave this to a technician
  • A steady LED carries no flash count, so the module and its supply have to be tested rather than read.
  • Module supply and control signals are measured with live voltage inside the steamer.
  • A replacement module must be followed by a safe-lighting check on the gas burner, which is gas appliance work.

How Ignition module LED: constant on differs from similar codes

A flashing LED gives a counted code such as one, two or three flashes. A steady LED has no count and points to the module or its inputs.

Ignition module LED: constant onQuestions about AccuTemp Ignition module LED: constant on
Is a steady LED the same as a flash code?

No. A flash code names a condition. A steady light means the module is not completing its normal cycle.

If it goes out after a restart, am I done?

Probably, but watch the next few starts. If the LED returns, have the module tested.

Do I need a new module?

The manual says a module that stays lit after a power cycle likely needs replacing, but wiring and signals are checked first.
