AccuTemp Steamer Water Level Board LED D3: 3-Second Flash
On AccuTemp Evolution steamers, a three-second flash from the D3 LED on the water level board normally means the board is satisfied with the water level and allows heat. If the low water light is also on, the board and the sensors disagree. Wipe the sensors, check the water supply, and call us if the two lights stay in conflict.
Low: the three-second flash is normally a good state, and it only needs service if it conflicts with the low water light.

What does AccuTemp Water level board LED D3: 3-second flash mean?
Water level board LED D3: 3-second flash is usually a good sign on an Evolution steamer. The water level board watches two sensors in the cooking cabinet. When both detect water, the board is satisfied and allows heat, and the D3 LED shows that with a slow three-second flash. The board and the low water light are meant to agree. When the LED says the level is fine but the low water light is on, or the steamer will not heat even though water looks fine, something in the loop is out of step. A technician tests this by removing a wire at the board's connector to see how the board responds. The sensors may be scaled or coated, so one reads dry while water is present. The wiring from the sensors can be loose or damaged, and the board itself can be giving mixed signals. For that reason the three-second flash is only a problem when it does not match what the steamer is doing. If heating works and the low water light is off, nothing needs doing.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to AccuTemp Evolution steamers that use the water level board described in the Evolution service manual. The flash timings and their meanings are specific to this board.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- The D3 LED flashes slowly every three seconds
- The low water light is on while the cabinet has water
- The steamer does not heat despite water in the chamber
Possible causes
Listed in AccuTemp's documentation
- Low water light disagreeing with the real water level
- Sensors in the cabinet coated or failed
- Water level board wiring open or loose
- Water level board itself failed
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind Water level board LED D3: 3-second flash on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A film of mineral scale on one sensor that makes the board read it as dry, though the other sees water
- A sensor wire with a corroded crimp that opens and closes as the cabinet warms
Safe checks before calling for service
- Stop cooking, power the steamer off, and wait until it has cooled.
- Wipe the two water sensors in the cooking cabinet with a soft cloth.
- Confirm the water supply is open.
- Switch on and watch the lights.
- If low water stays on with the three-second flash, call us. Note which lights were on and whether the chamber visibly held water.
How a technician diagnoses Water level board LED D3: 3-second flash
- Observe the LED and low water light through a normal fill and heat cycle.
- Check each sensor's connection and the wiring back to the board.
- Perform the connector test from the manual by removing a wire at the board.
- Measure board input and output to see whether it matches the sensors.
- Replace the sensor, wiring or board only after the test points to it.
- The manual's test removes a wire at the board's connector, which is work on a powered board that an operator should not do.
- Telling a sensor problem from a board problem takes a meter and the manual's procedure.
How Water level board LED D3: 3-second flash differs from similar codes
A one-second flash on the same LED means the board senses no water and is asking for a fill. The three-second flash is the satisfied state, and only a mismatch with the low water light signals a problem.

Related AccuTemp steamer & kettle error codes
Is the three-second flash an error?
Not by itself. It is the normal sign that the board is satisfied. It becomes a concern only if the low water light is on or the steamer will not heat.
Will wiping the sensors fix it?
Sometimes, if scale was fooling the board. If the lights still disagree, the sensors, wiring or board need testing.
Is it safe to keep cooking?
If heating works and the low water light is off, yes. If the light is on, stop and have it checked.
