Nor-Lake LogiTemp Walk-In Alarm LtA: Low Air Temperature

LtA is the low air temperature alarm on Nor-Lake LogiTemp walk-in coolers and freezers with a Split-Pak system. The walk-in is running colder than intended, which in a cooler can freeze produce and drinks. Check the box with a thermometer, move items that froze away from the evaporator and call us if LtA keeps returning.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: product can freeze and energy is wasted, but this is not a food-safety temperature rise.

What does Nor-Lake error code LtA mean?

A cooler is meant to hold a narrow range, and the LogiTemp controller guards the cold side as well as the warm side. LtA appears when box air stays below Room Temp minus the Low Temp Offset for longer than the Low Temp Alarm Delay. The delay filters out a short cold spell after a defrost or a restart. When the walk-in is truly running colder than intended, it freezes lettuce, drinks and other items that sit near the evaporator. It often means the controller is not cycling the system off, for example because of a bad air sensor or a setting that was changed. The checks follow from that: the air sensor reading and its wiring, Room Temp and the low temperature settings, whether the system is cycling off properly, and whether a setting was changed by mistake. A sensor that reads warm makes the controller run too long. The first practical step is to confirm with a thermometer that the box really is too cold.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to the LogiTemp controller on Nor-Lake walk-in coolers and freezers with a Split-Pak system.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • LtA on the display
  • Frozen lettuce, drinks or produce near the evaporator
  • Compressor running without cycling off
  • Heavy frost on the coil

Possible causes

Listed in Nor-Lake's documentation

  • Air sensor reading wrongly or its wiring damaged
  • Room Temp or low temperature settings out of line
  • System not cycling off properly
  • A setting changed by mistake

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code LtA on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Air sensor reading high because it sits in a warm spot, so the system runs too long
  • Contactor sticking so the compressor cannot switch off
  • Setpoint changed during a past service or by a stray key press

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Check the box with a thermometer to see whether it really is too cold.
  2. Look for items that froze, such as lettuce or beverages, and move them away from the evaporator.
  3. Make sure nothing is blocking the evaporator airflow.
  4. Call us to schedule service if LtA keeps returning.

How a technician diagnoses error code LtA

  1. Read LtA and compare the box temperature with a reference thermometer.
  2. Review Room Temp, offsets and delay settings.
  3. Check the air sensor position, reading and wiring.
  4. Watch whether the compressor cycles off at the setpoint.
  5. Test the contactor or relay if it keeps running.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Compressor control relays carry line voltage.
  • Setting changes alter how the whole box runs and need the system's data.
  • Verifying a sensor against a reference takes a calibrated thermometer.

How error code LtA differs from similar codes

HtA is the opposite alarm for a box that is too warm. LtA is about a box that is too cold.

LtAQuestions about Nor-Lake error code LtA
Is LtA as serious as a warm box?

It is less urgent for safety, but it can ruin produce and drinks.

Did someone change the setpoint?

That is possible. We check the settings along with the sensor.

Will LtA go away?

It clears once the box warms to its range, but a repeat means the control needs a check.
