Rancilio Espresso Machine Log Entry E06: Softener Regeneration

E06 on a Rancilio Classe 11 is an entry in the error log: the water softener needs regeneration. It is a reminder, not a breakdown. The manual gives no operator step, so ask your service technician or water supplier to regenerate the softener.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: a maintenance request; the machine keeps working.

What does Rancilio error code E06 mean?

A water softener removes the hardness that would otherwise build up as scale in the boiler and valves. Its resin has a limited capacity, and when that is used up, it needs to be regenerated. The Classe 11 records E06 Softener regeneration requested in its error log to say that point has been reached. The manual lists it among the errors, but the entry is a request, not a failure. The machine is asking for attention to the water treatment before scale gets a hold. Continuing to brew on a spent softener is possible for a time, but hard water leaves scale on the boiler and group parts, and that shortens their life.
