What does Rancilio error code W18 mean?
The boiler filling valve opens when the boiler needs water, and the control drives it through a circuit that it monitors. When the valve coil or its wiring shorts, the current rises, the control switches the circuit off and shows W18 Short circuit boiler filling valve. With the valve off, the boiler cannot be filled on demand, so the machine may run short of water or refuse to heat. The manual's guidance for valve and sensor problems is to call a technician. Because this is an electrical short beside water, the machine should be left off if it will not fill. A shorted coil, a lead that has rubbed through, or water in a connector could each cause it.
