Speed Queen CHM495R Washer Error Code Ed02: High DC Bus Voltage
Ed02 on a Design 2 or 3 CHM495R washer-extractor is a DC bus error: the internal power line feeding the motor is higher than the drive allows. Switch the machine off, note any surge or outage in the building, and call us if it returns.
High: the drive stops the motor, so the machine cannot spin until the voltage cause is solved.

What does Speed Queen error code Ed02 mean?
The motor drive turns incoming power into an internal DC line, the DC bus, that feeds the motor. The drive measures that line, and if it rises above the limit the drive allows, it stops to protect itself. The control then shows Ed02, and the load stays in the drum with the machine unable to spin until it is cleared. The owner's manual says to power down, verify the line voltage, then power up. The reasons it can happen are narrow: line voltage running high at the machine, a drive board that mismeasures the internal bus voltage, or power surges coming in on the supply line. High line voltage often follows work on the building's electrical service or a nearby utility event, which is why the note about a surge or outage is useful. The code is shown by Design 2 and 3 machines only. Its low-side partner is Ed10, which is just a notice.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers Design 2 and Design 3 machines of the CHM495R family washer-extractor front-end control. Design 1 machines do not use this code.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- The cycle stops and the drum will not spin
- Ed02 shows on the display
- The load stays in the drum
Possible causes
Listed in Speed Queen's documentation
- Line voltage running high at the machine
- A drive board that mismeasures the internal bus voltage
- Power surges coming in on the supply line
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Ed02 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A transformer tap in the building set for a higher voltage than the machine expects
- A large nearby motor switching off and sending a spike down the shared supply
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the machine off, which the owner's manual gives as the first step.
- Give the lock time to release before the door is opened.
- Make a note of any surge or outage in the building.
- If the code returns, tell us when it appeared and ask us to come out.
How a technician diagnoses error code Ed02
- Read the code and ask about recent electrical work or storms.
- Measure the supply voltage at the machine over a period, including idle and load.
- Compare it with the machine's rated voltage.
- Check the drive's bus voltage reading against the supply.
- Replace the drive board only if the supply is steady and the reading is wrong.
- Measuring line voltage means live work on a high-energy supply, which is for a licensed technician.
- A bus that is too high can damage the drive and the motor.
- Logging voltage over time to catch surges takes test equipment.
How error code Ed02 differs from similar codes
Ed10 is the low-side counterpart and only a notice, while Ed02 stops the machine.

Can the building power cause Ed02?
Yes. High line voltage or surges are two of the three causes the manual lists.
Will the machine run if I power down and up?
It may, if the surge was a one-off. A repeat needs a voltage check.
Is Ed02 the same as Ed10?
No. Ed02 is a high bus that stops the machine; Ed10 is a low-bus notice that lets the cycle continue.
