UniMac Washer-Extractor Error Code E d 25: IPM Over Temperature

E d 25 means the drive's power module on a UniMac QN washer-extractor got too hot and stopped the cycle. Power down and let it cool, keep lint away from the machine, and call us if it returns.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the drive stops to cool and usually restarts, but a repeat points to lint or drag that keeps stressing it.

What does UniMac error code E d 25 mean?

E d 25 is the IPM over temperature error on a UniMac QN washer-extractor such as the UCA020QN. The IPM is the power module in the drive that switches current to the motor, and it creates heat while it works. A temperature sensor on the module tells the drive how hot it is. When the reading passes the limit, the drive stops the cycle so the module is not damaged.

This is a heat problem more than an electrical one. Lint packed on the drive board heat sink traps heat. A drum that drags, or a heavy load, keeps the drive working hard so it produces more heat. A warm laundry room gives the drive less margin, and in a summer a poorly ventilated room can be enough to tip it. A cooling fan or heat sink that no longer removes heat is the remaining cause.

Powering the machine down clears the code and gives the drive time to cool. It has to cool before it restarts, so a quick restart can bring the code straight back.

Affected models and control systems

E d 25 is listed for the CHM1792C family, QN washer-extractors from 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control and drive board. The manual's example model is the UCA020QN.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • The display shows E d 25 after a run of heavy loads
  • The laundry room is warm and the cabinet feels hot
  • The code disappears after a rest and returns later
  • Lint is visible around the vents on the machine

Possible causes

Listed in UniMac's documentation

  • Lint packed onto the drive board heat sink
  • A drum that drags or a heavy load that keeps the drive working hard
  • A warm laundry room with poor ventilation around the drive
  • A cooling fan or heat sink on the drive that no longer removes heat

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E d 25 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Dryers nearby blowing hot air into the washer's rear clearance
  • Machine pushed against a wall so air cannot circulate around the cabinet
  • Drive cooling fan seized from lint so the heat sink gets no airflow
  • Thermal paste between module and heat sink dried out and no longer carries heat away

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Power the machine down to clear the code and give the drive time to cool.
  2. Check by hand that the empty drum turns freely, with power off and the drum still.
  3. Keep the area around the machine free of lint and leave space behind it.
  4. If E d 25 returns, note the room temperature and the loads run, and call us to clean and test the drive.

How a technician diagnoses error code E d 25

  1. Read the code and note room conditions and recent load history.
  2. Lock out the machine and inspect the drive heat sink and cooling fan for lint.
  3. Clean the heat sink and confirm the fan turns freely and runs.
  4. Check drum drag and motor current so the drive is not overworked.
  5. Compare the module temperature reading with a thermometer on the heat sink.
  6. Replace the fan or drive board only after cleaning and the load check leave the code in place.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Cleaning the heat sink means opening the cabinet around live drive boards that hold charge.
  • Checking a cooling fan and the module's temperature reading needs a meter and a reference thermometer.
  • A drum that drags needs bearing work before the drive can run cool.

E d 25Questions about UniMac error code E d 25
Should I wait before restarting?

Yes. The drive has to cool, and restarting too soon usually brings the code back at once.

Can a hot room cause it?

Yes. A warm, poorly ventilated laundry room leaves the drive less margin, so the same loads can trip it.

Is E d 25 the same as E d 22?

No. E d 25 is the drive's power module running hot, and E d 22 is the motor running hot.
