UniMac Washer-Extractor Error Code E Ld: Water Leak Drain Error

E Ld is a water leak error on UniMac QN, UC-series and UW washer-extractors. The water level fell when it should have held steady, which suggests the drain valve is leaking or not closing. Dry the floor and call us before using the washer.

Medium · inspection needed

High: a falling water level suggests a leaking drain valve and possible water on the floor.

What does UniMac error code E Ld mean?

E Ld is a water leak error on UniMac QN, UC-series and UW pocket hardmount washer-extractors. During a wash the control expects the water level to hold steady. This time it watched the level fall without a drain command. That suggests the drain valve is leaking or not closing. UC machines describe it as a drain valve error from a level drop. On QN machines the message appears for one minute after the door is opened at the end of the batch.

The valve seating and travel are the first suspects. Debris or lint can hold the valve open. The level sensor and its tubing may report a drop that is not real. Leaks at the drain hose or tub fittings can also lower the level.

On a QN machine, press any keypad to clear the display. Look at the floor under and behind the washer for standing water, without moving the machine, and dry the area so nobody slips. Take the washer out of service until we check the drain valve, especially if water keeps seeping.

Affected models and control systems

E Ld is listed for the CHM495R family washer-extractors (UC series, 20 to 100 lb), the PHM1263R family pocket hardmount washer-extractors (UWL, UWN and UWU 035 to 125) and the CHM1792C family QN washer-extractors, all with the front-end control.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • The display shows E Ld, on QN machines for a minute after the door opens
  • Water level in the drum sinks during the wash
  • Wet floor under or behind the washer
  • A trickle at the drain outlet while the washer sits idle

Possible causes

Listed in UniMac's documentation

  • Drain valve seating and travel
  • Debris or lint holding the valve open
  • Level sensor and tubing
  • Leaks at the drain hose or tub fittings

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E Ld on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Rubber seat on the drain valve cut by a coin or button
  • Valve diaphragm hardened by hot water and chemical use
  • Hose clamp loosened by vibration, leaking at the tub
  • Level tube with a pinhole that reads falling pressure

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. On a QN machine, press any keypad to clear the display.
  2. Look at the floor under and behind the washer for standing water, without moving the machine.
  3. Dry the area so nobody slips.
  4. Take the washer out of service until we check the drain valve, especially if water keeps seeping.

How a technician diagnoses error code E Ld

  1. Read the code and look for a wet floor and leak signs.
  2. Fill the drum and watch whether the level holds with the drain closed.
  3. Inspect the drain valve seat, diaphragm and linkage.
  4. Check the drain hose, clamps and tub fittings.
  5. Verify the level sensor and its tube.
  6. Repair or replace the valve, seals or hose as the test shows.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Water on the floor near the machine is a slip and shock hazard.
  • The drain valve and hoses sit behind panels near live wiring.
  • Telling a leaking valve from a bad level reading needs a controlled fill test.

How error code E Ld differs from similar codes

E Ld is the drain-side leak error, while E LF is the fill-side leak error where the level rises with no fill commanded.

E LdQuestions about UniMac error code E Ld
Is the washer leaking onto the floor?

It might be. The code means the level fell, so check for water and dry it first.

Why does the message vanish after a minute on QN machines?

It shows for one minute after the door opens at the end of the batch.

Can I run another load?

We suggest waiting until the valve is checked, as a leaking valve can empty the tub mid-wash.
