UniMac Washer-Extractor Error Code E LF: Water Leak Fill Error
E LF is the water leak fill error on UniMac QN and UC-series washer-extractors. The water level climbed when no fill was commanded, which points at a fill valve that does not shut. Close the supply valves at the wall and call us.
High: water entering without a command can overfill the drum and flood the floor.

What does UniMac error code E LF mean?
E LF is the water leak fill error on UniMac QN washer-extractors such as the UCA020QN and on UC-series machines such as the UCH020GNF. The control watched the water level climb when no fill was commanded. Water is entering without permission, which points at a fill valve that does not shut completely. On UC machines it applies to Design 2 and 3 models only. A leaking inlet valve can slowly fill the drum on its own, even with the washer idle.
The fill valve seats and coils are the first suspects. Debris can hold a valve open. The level sensor and tubing may report a rise that is not real. Pressure surges on the supply can make a marginal valve pass water.
Shut the hot and cold supply valves at the wall if you can reach them safely. Power the machine down, keep the door closed, and check the drum and the floor for water. Leave the supply closed until we have inspected the fill valves.
Affected models and control systems
E LF is listed for the CHM495R family washer-extractors (UC series, Design 2 and 3 models only) and the CHM1792C family QN washer-extractors, with the front-end control.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- The display shows E LF
- Water level rising in the drum while the washer is idle
- Water noise from the inlet valves after a cycle ends
- A damp floor if the drum overfills
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- Fill valve seats and coils
- Debris holding a valve open
- Level sensor and tubing
- Pressure surges on the supply
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E LF on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Valve seat scored by sand that came through the supply line
- Diaphragm swollen by chemicals and no longer sealing
- Stuck valve plunger after a long idle
- Water hammer from a quick-closing valve elsewhere in the building
Safe checks before calling for service
- Shut the hot and cold supply valves at the wall if you can reach them safely.
- Power the machine down and keep the door closed.
- Check the drum and the floor for water, and dry any wet floor.
- Leave the supply closed until we have inspected the fill valves.
How a technician diagnoses error code E LF
- Read the code and look for water in the drum.
- With supply closed, remove and inspect the inlet screens and valve seats.
- Test each valve coil and watch its closure.
- Check the level sensor and tube.
- Check supply pressure for surges.
- Replace the valve or clean it as the inspection shows.
- Water in a drum with open supply lines can overflow onto a floor with live equipment.
- Valve coils are mains-powered.
- Isolating the leaking valve takes a staged test that needs the supply controlled.
How error code E LF differs from similar codes
E LF is the fill-side leak error, while E Ld is the drain-side leak error. On UC machines E LF applies only to Design 2 and 3.

Can the washer flood?
It can, if a valve keeps passing water. That is why we ask you to close the supply valves.
Is this the same as E FL?
No. E FL means the level never reached the target. E LF means the level rose without a fill command.
Does it apply to every UC machine?
Only to Design 2 and 3 models.
