UniMac UW Washer-Extractor Error Code E ro: Rotation Sensor Error

E ro means a UniMac UW pocket hardmount washer-extractor is not receiving a good signal from its drum rotation sensor. The washer may finish the batch using timed coast estimates. Let the cycle finish, then power down and call us if E ro returns.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the machine can finish batches using estimated coast times, but speed is no longer measured.

What does UniMac error code E ro mean?

E ro is the rotation sensor error on a UniMac UW pocket hardmount washer-extractor such as the UWL035K12. A sensor reads drum rotation and tells the control how fast the drum is turning. The control is not receiving a good signal from it. To finish the batch it falls back on coast times in place of measured speed. The washer may complete the wash, but spin and braking are timed by estimate. The code stays until the cause is corrected.

A rotation sensor set too far from its target gives a weak signal. A damaged sensor wire or loose connector can lose it altogether. Lint or dirt coating the rotation sensor can mask the target. A control input that no longer reads the sensor completes the list.

Let the cycle finish if the machine continues, then power down once the drum has stopped. Keep the area around the washer clean and dry, and do not open panels to adjust the sensor.

Affected models and control systems

E ro is listed for the PHM1263R family pocket hardmount washer-extractors, the UWL, UWN and UWU models from 035 to 125, with the front-end control.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • The display shows E ro while the washer keeps running
  • Extract and braking feel less precise than usual
  • The drum takes longer or shorter to stop
  • The code stays across several batches

Possible causes

Listed in UniMac's documentation

  • A rotation sensor set too far from its target
  • A damaged sensor wire or loose connector
  • Lint or dirt coating the rotation sensor
  • A control input that no longer reads the sensor

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E ro on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Sensor bracket knocked out of position during service
  • Wire pinched behind the basket housing
  • Damp lint film on the sensor face
  • Input circuit damaged by electrical noise

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Let the cycle finish if the machine continues, then power down once the drum has stopped.
  2. Keep the area around the washer clean and dry.
  3. Do not open panels to adjust the sensor.
  4. If E ro returns, call us and say whether the washer kept running.

How a technician diagnoses error code E ro

  1. Read the code and note that the machine used coast times.
  2. Lock out the machine and check the sensor gap to its target.
  3. Clean lint and dirt from the sensor face.
  4. Check the sensor wire and connector.
  5. Test the sensor output while turning the drum by hand.
  6. Replace the sensor or check the control input as the test shows.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The sensor gap is set with a gauge, and too much or too little changes its signal.
  • Turning the drum by hand with the cabinet open calls for lockout.
  • Braking by estimate is not what the machine was designed for.

E roQuestions about UniMac error code E ro
Can I keep washing with E ro?

The machine may finish batches, but spin and braking run on estimates, so we advise a prompt visit.

Is the sensor expensive?

Often the cause is a gap, dirt or a connector, not the sensor itself.

Will it clear by itself?

Not until the cause is corrected.
