UniMac Washer-Extractor Error Code Ed11: Invalid Command

Ed11 means the drive was handed a motor command it could not accept. The batch carries on and nothing is required from you, so keep a count and call us if it repeats or a batch stops.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: a single rejected command does not stop the batch, but a repeating pattern should be checked.

What does UniMac error code Ed11 mean?

Every time the front-end control of a UniMac UC-series washer-extractor wants the motor to do something, it sends a command to the drive. The drive checks that the command makes sense, for example a speed or direction that the motor setup allows. If a command arrives garbled or out of range, the drive refuses it and posts Ed11. Because the next command is usually correct, the batch carries on and no operator action is needed. It usually reads as a one-time communication hiccup between control and drive, and not as a halted cycle. The manual lists control-to-drive communication, electrical noise on the supply, control and drive software pairing, and board condition if it repeats. The message applies to Design 2 and 3 models only. A single Ed11 can be ignored, but a pattern of repeated ones, or one that comes with a stopped batch, shows the link is not healthy and is worth checking.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to the CHM495R family of UniMac UC-series washer-extractors, 20 to 100 lb, with the motor drive, for example the UCH020GNF. Only Design 2 and 3 models show Ed11.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Ed11 appearing briefly and the cycle continuing
  • A message that comes and goes without a stop
  • Repeats at the same step of a cycle
  • An occasional jerk or pause in the drum

Possible causes

Listed in UniMac's documentation

  • Control-to-drive communication
  • Electrical noise on the supply
  • Control and drive software pairing
  • Board condition if it repeats

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Ed11 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A communication cable run close to a motor lead, which picks up noise when the motor is loaded
  • A power supply shared with welding or other noisy equipment
  • A control or drive board swapped earlier with a different software version

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Let the cycle continue; nothing is required from you.
  2. Keep count of how often Ed11 appears and at which step.
  3. Keep damp mops and loose cables away from the machine.
  4. If it repeats or a batch stops, call us with your count and the dates.

How a technician diagnoses error code Ed11

  1. Read the code history and see how often Ed11 has been logged.
  2. Inspect the communication wiring between control and drive for routing close to power leads.
  3. Check the supply for electrical noise or voltage disturbance with a meter.
  4. Compare control and drive software versions against the maker's pairing information.
  5. Replace a board only if the problem follows it after wiring and supply are cleared.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Inspecting wiring between the boards means working near live terminals.
  • Noise on a supply line can only be found with test equipment.
  • Matching software versions between control and drive needs the maker's information.

Ed11Questions about UniMac error code Ed11
Is one Ed11 a problem?

Not usually. It is a single rejected command and the cycle continues.

What if it repeats?

A repeating Ed11 shows the link between control and drive is unreliable, and we should check wiring, noise and software.

Will the drive damage the motor?

No. Rejecting a bad command is the drive doing its job. The risk is only that the link may degrade later.
