UniMac Washer-Extractor Error Code EI02: IR Time-Out
EI02 is the infrared time-out message: the washer waited for the next part of a transfer and nothing arrived in time. Keep the tool steady, start the transfer over, and call us if EI02 happens every time.
Low: an infrared programming message that does not touch washing or spinning.

What does UniMac error code EI02 mean?
When a programming tool talks to a UniMac UW pocket hardmount washer-extractor over the infrared window, the exchange is a series of short steps, and the control waits a limited time for each one. If the next piece of data does not arrive in that time, the control stops waiting and shows EI02. The link opened but never finished. As with the other infrared messages, the wash system is untouched, and the machine can keep processing batches while you sort out the programming tool. A handheld device that was moved during the transfer is the usual reason, because the beam leaves the window. A weak battery in the tool can also slow or stop it. A dirty window over the infrared port can weaken the signal enough to cause delays, and a control receiver that drops out is the last suspect if time-outs repeat with different tools. Re-aiming and keeping the device still ends most cases.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the PHM1263R family of UniMac UW pocket hardmount washer-extractors, models UWL, UWN and UWU 035 to 125, such as the UWL035K12. EI02 belongs to the infrared message group on this control.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- EI02 on the display during or after a transfer
- Tool that begins and then stalls
- Transfers that fail only at longer distance
- Normal washing between attempts
Possible causes
Listed in UniMac's documentation
- A handheld device moved during the transfer
- A weak battery in the handheld device
- A dirty window over the infrared port
- A control receiver that drops out when time-outs repeat
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EI02 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A tool left to sit at a shallow angle so the beam drifts off the window as it settles
- A programming tool whose software hangs waiting on an answer
- A laundry fixture or reflective surface that bounces back stray infrared light
Safe checks before calling for service
- Re-aim the external device at the control window and start the transfer over.
- Keep the device still until the transfer ends.
- Check that the device has power or a fresh battery.
- If EI02 happens every time, call us and tell us which tool you used.
How a technician diagnoses error code EI02
- Read the code and ask which tool and software version were used.
- Check the tool battery and run a test transfer at close range and steady aim.
- Clean the infrared window and look at the angle and ambient light.
- Try a second tool or a second known machine to see whether the problem follows the tool.
- Test the control's receiver only if time-outs continue with a good tool.
- Confirming a receiver problem needs a known-good second tool and the maker's procedure.
- Opening the control means working near live low-voltage and mains-powered boards.
- Programming changes sent over the link alter the washer's own cycle data.

What is a time-out?
The control waits a limited time for each step of a transfer. If nothing arrives, it gives up and shows EI02.
Does EI02 affect production?
No. The wash, drain and spin systems are not involved.
Is it the same as EI0C?
EI0C is a longer time-out that points to a stalled link. EI02 is the plain time-out.
