UniMac Industrial Washer Shorted Temperature Sensor Error
Shorted Temperature Sensor Error means the UniLinc control reads above 220 F on a machine with a temperature sensor, which indicates a shorted thermistor. The cycle is aborted with an audio alarm and a log entry. Clear the menu and return to the Cycle Menu.
Medium: hot cycles cannot run safely until the sensor is repaired.

What does UniMac Shorted Temperature Sensor Error mean?
The temperature sensor on this control is a thermistor, and its resistance changes with temperature. If the thermistor or its wiring shorts, the resistance drops toward zero, and the control reads that as a temperature far above anything the water could reach. A reading above 220 F is therefore treated as a shorted sensor. The control aborts the cycle, shows the Cycle Aborted Error Menu with Shorted Temperature Sensor Error, sounds the audio alarm and logs the event. The manual's only operator action is to clear the menu and return to the Cycle Menu. The number on the screen is not a real water temperature, so there is no reason to fear that the tub is boiling. A technician reads the actual resistance with the machine off and then looks along the cable run for the place where the insulation has been damaged. Pinched or chafed cable, water in the connector or a failed thermistor are the usual reasons. The opposite case, a reading below 5 F, is Open Temperature Sensor Error.
Affected models and control systems
UniMac UniLinc control on the UW35TV, UW60TV, UW80TV, UW100TV, UW125TV and UW150TV washer-extractors and the UWL, UWN and UWU 035-150 T3 models.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Shorted Temperature Sensor Error on the display
- Audio alarm
- Cycle aborted
- Temperature reading far above anything plausible
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind Shorted Temperature Sensor Error on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Thermistor shorted internally
- Sensor cable chafed so the two wires touch
- Water or residue bridging the connector pins
- Control input not reading the thermistor correctly
Safe checks before calling for service
- Clear the Cycle Aborted Error Menu and return to the Cycle Menu.
- Do not repeat hot cycles over and over.
- Look at the area around the sensor for leaks, without opening panels.
- Check whether the water in the tub feels normal through the door once it is unlocked.
- Tell the technician the cycle and step when it happened.
How a technician diagnoses Shorted Temperature Sensor Error
- Read the log entry and the cycle step.
- Check actual water temperature with a reference thermometer.
- Measure the thermistor resistance with power off.
- Inspect the cable and connector for chafing and moisture.
- Replace the thermistor or cable and run a test cycle.
- The sensor wiring runs into the line-voltage electrical area.
- A thermistor has to be tested with a meter and a reference thermometer.
- The sensor sits in a wet area of the machine.
How Shorted Temperature Sensor Error differs from similar codes
Shorted Temperature Sensor Error reads above 220 F. Open Temperature Sensor Error reads below 5 F.

Is the water really above 220 F?
No. A reading that high means the sensor circuit is shorted.
Can I keep washing?
Cycles that rely on the sensor will keep aborting until it is repaired.
How is it different from Open Temperature Sensor Error?
That one is a reading below 5 F, an open circuit. This one is above 220 F, a short.
