Repairs this series usually needs

  1. One section warm
  2. Gasket wear
  3. Dirty condenser
  4. Frost
  5. Thermostat problems

The MCL dual-temp cabinets combine refrigerator and freezer sections, with 15 numbers such as DT1-102001E, DT2-202001E and DT4-402001E. They use a mechanical control with a knob rather than an electronic panel.

We check each section’s temperature separately, since one can drift while the other is fine. Then we look at the gaskets, the condenser and the thermostat. A frosted freezer section points to a gasket or defrost problem, and a warm refrigerator section points to airflow or the condenser.

Tell us which section is warm and the number from the plate, and we plan the visit around it. We test both sections again before we leave, so each holds its own temperature. Because each section has its own door and gasket, we run a hand around both seals and look for frost lines that show where cold air is escaping, then we recheck both temperatures before we leave.

FAQMcCall MCL Dual-Temperature Reach-Ins questions
Which section is the freezer?

The plate and the labels inside tell us. If you are unsure, tell us which section feels colder and we start there. The labels inside the cabinet name each section.

Why is only one section warm?

Each section has its own air path and gasket. A blocked vent or a leaking seal affects just that section. The sections do not share cold air, so we test each one's gasket, vent and temperature separately.

Is the control a knob?

Yes, on these dual-temp cabinets. We test the thermostat and check the temperature against a thermometer. The knob sets the temperature, so we also check that the mark on it still matches the cabinet's actual reading.
